Planning a trip on the 21st to the Newberry MI UP area, Anyone familiar with this area? Looking to ride north trails 8 and 9, how many miles roughly, But my SRX likes its gas...
gas stops? best place to stay?? Thanks for any info..

I'm familiar enough with the area to tell you that you can ride out of Newberry and go any direction you want. You could have a 70 mile day or a 225 mile day. There were plenty of places for gas the last time I was there. About the only tough direction to go is due west along M28.

I'd still be going to Newberry once a year if we didn't have a place in Higgins Lake.

Thanks for the info.. All of my snow is gone here, so I have to go north..
Do you know how many miles it is if you do the trail from newberry north up to the penisula then back around to new berry.. I think its the trail 8 and 9.

That is a very long jaunt. Do you mean the keewanau? You might be able to make it there in a day. Of course you would have an issue making it back the same day.

I was thinking leaving newberry and going to Paradise, then to Grand marias area then back down to newberry. From what I can see from the map it should be around 150 miles, Is that close from what other have done??

That is a good trip. My group has done that trip the last 2 years. There are gas stops along the way, just make sure you top off at each stop.

Thanks, Thats a all day ride I am guessing...

All day trip and more. We usually ride from Newberry to Grand Maris stay the night then to Pardice stay the night and ride back the next day.

How long does it take you to get from newberry to grand marias?? Is that at a steady trail pace....40 -50 mph, or frequent stops??
Thanks for the info again!!

You may be better off to ride the falls trail in the morning when you do your loop as it always seems to get bad sooner than other trails up there.I have found this to almost always hold true in the 8 years that I've rode up there.

Thanks for the tip, I was kinda planning on going that way first...
Catch some lunch in paradise, then finish the loop...

Your welcome and have a good time, I'll be up there thursday-saturday of this coming week, I sure hope that they get some fresh snow!

So we will be there the same time, I will be there friday evening and all day saturday, Maybe we'll see ya.

Our group is staying at Trout Lake and riding from there. We are heading back saturday probably afternoon or early evening, I'll look for the SRX's.

Honestly, I've never stayed there just parked there and left on saddlebag trips.I've stayed a bunch of places up there usually farther up or over. Its a cabin as opposed to a motel like we usually do, I'll try to remember to report back and let everyone know if its worth staying at.

Just got back from that area today and Newbery definitely needs snow. Trout Lake is very snirty as well and town roads are shot. They are supposed to get some fresh snow this week and really need it badly. Watch the weather reports, especially the John Dee report as he is usually pretty accurate.

We stayed in Munising on Saturday and rode to Ishpeming/Marquette/Gwinn. Trails were great, I wouldn't say the same for the trip we took to Grand Marais Friday. Very bumpy and about a thousand sleds....I hope the weather works out for your trip!

Good to know, I was a little leary when my buddy booked the cabin at Trout Lake seeing the snow can be thinner down that way.Lets hope for some fresh snow!

Thanks for the update.. all season.
Supposed to get snow up there, wed - saturday. Hopefully they get alot!!
1000 sleds mmmm I hope there is a little less next weekend. :bump:
