Power Valves - Why Do We Need Them?

Somewhere here I read that the valves open at 6500 rpm. My sleds seldom run below that speed. I have them clutched keeping the revs high. Does anybody run without them?

I have 3 SRX's and I am constantly finding pulled through cables. And yes I have adjusted the cables properly, and yes I clean the valves. ONLY once a year. The valves do get dirty quick, but I am not cleaning them after every ride.

Does the SS bolt repair work? Has anyone broken one of these? Now the cables probably break.

I clean every 2500km.

I have been cleaning my viper valves every 2500km or once a season, which ever comes first. Never had a pulled through valve yet. Trick is to pull of servo cover and check valve movement, if they move properly you can keep riding.

ok they open at 6500 rpm and stay open above that rpm! 6500 rpm is barely on the throttle haha, 60mph-70mph in that rpm range.

Run amsoil, its awesome for powervalves, i run it and they stay alot cleaner... you should be cleaning them every 600 miles, not every year, pull thrus are just waiting to happen then, and probably did happen!

your still doing somthing wrong then if your constantly finding pulled through cables, your jetting if off way rich or your pump, or shitty oil, because if properly adjusted and kep clean u should have no problems.

try a different oil(syn)cut pump back and clean more then once a season.

We don't "need" the power valves but they definately contribute to what we all like about our SRX's/Vipers:-advanced two stroke technology
-great throttle response
-some of the best fuel economy on the trail
If we only ran wide open we wouldn't want or need them, some drag racers lock them open and just clutch accordingly.
The fact that your power vavles are carboning up would indicate they may not be open as much as you think!

THE POWERVALVES FUNCTION IS TO CLOSE /LOWER THE EXAUST PORT AT LOWER RPMS , THUS CREATING MORE TORQUE PROGRESSIVLY OPENING TO VALVE PEAK RPM . I WOULD BE VERY SURPRIZED THAT ANYONE CAN HOLD THE THROTTLE AT 6500 RPM FROM CORNER TO CORNER ON A 100 MILE RIDE .

THE WIFES SLED PULLED A CABLE AND I REMOVED THE VALVE (ALWAYS HAVE THE TOOLS IN SLED ) TO GET HOME . I RATHER RUN WITHOUT IT THAN WITH IT IN THE CYLINDER (TOO HOT) . ANYHOW WITHOUT JUST 1 VALVE THERE WAS A NOTICABLE DECREASE IN POWER (TORQUE) AND ALOT LESS EFFICIENT ON FUEL . AFTER IT WAS FIXED SHE THOUGHT I HAD PUT A BIGGER ENGINE IN AND SHE DONT KNOW A HOLE LOT ABOUT SLEDS .

YPVS IS PROBABLY THE MOST EFFICIENT SYSTEM OF ALL MANUFACTURERS , AND YES THE VALVE CABLE COMBO IS NOT THE BEST , BUT THE OPERATOR CAN MAKE A BIG DIFF. WITH MAINTENANCE . IMO

The servo controller is much more accurate and reliable vs the gas operated valves like polaris and doo offerd.yamaha nailed it with there YPVS,keep things clean/adjusted and go.
