What sled did the motor fail in, mileage and what kind of 2stroke oil was being used.
94 vmax 600, 9000 KM, yamalube.
But the reason it burned down was lack of carb maintenance(not my sled) and a piece of crud blocked the main jet during a wide open run across a lake.

Carb
Thats okay I want ALL engine failures..not only will it show importance of oil ((perhaps)) but that of pm on carbs/fuel system. THX

Buddy had an 97 VMax 700 w/ pipes it's whole life. Always used Yamalube, and a crank bearing failed at 9800 miles. Engine had never been been opened before that.

You cant prove that a single oil is the main cause of an engine failure, too may variables in the mix. a tear down and inspection with measurements is the only way.
but anyway ok no engine failures to date sence 1980 with yamalube or a synthetic Amsoil.

Good idea... I thought about starting a thread asking members to indicate what oil(s) they were using and experiences with them. Perhaps even including some pictures at PV service time to show REAL world results(with mileage). My concerns are with protection/blowby/internal cleanliness/smoke/smell. Price being last as I would rather pay for quality... oil is cheaper than pistons/downtime. Just my $.02.

^^ this is where a syn will shine more.it will take longer for parts to show incressed wear.northern srx said:My concerns are with protection/blowby/internal cleanliness/smoke/smell.
2 SRX's... 2000/ Klotz/ re-ring time @ 6000KM's fair amount of blowby/ pistons just out of spec... 2002 purchased used/ 9500KM's / original owner used nothing but mineral oil/ teardown to freshen up top end/ less blowby/ pistons just out of spec... just my experiences so far. BTW, both still ran nails before teardown!!!
kirkswim's 02 viper bought new in 03.
stock oil pump settings, motul synthetic except for one year of running ipone synthetic. carbs where cleaned 1 week before muni ty ride in jan. 7000km on it when it threw mag side connecting rod bearing. carb boots and crank seals all good. carbs had no plugged jets or debris and was oil in all bowls. y-pipe had cracked 1-2 hrs earlier but plugs still read ritch (according to nospro and others). pistons/rings where still good with very little blow-by. other than debris in top of bad cyl piston looked good. only time it was ever run on 91 octane in the last 3 years is when it blew up.
going to make it meaner now and do all the piston and rings.

1 800ZR Arcitc Cat Castrol oil. Lean mix on PTO cyl. glogged jets. 2008
1 600 Polaris, polaris oil. Lean mix, both cylinders, glogged jets 2008
1 570 Exciter yamalube Lean Mix Mag Cylinder rotten carb mount flange 2008
1 700 Yamaha SX Yamalube over heat, center cylinder 2009
None of these are mine. Poor maintanance by owners were primary failure reasons.

400cc..been awhile since I thought about this old girl. Lost recoil cyl due to incorrect mixture of golden spectrum.

Blew up my old MM quite a few times, due to running it at sea level too long, with High elevation jetting, Amsoil HP it's whole life.
2004 Rev 600HO, not sure what oil, 04's had ring problem from the start, ended up having the nicasil peeling off of the cylinder, and a partially scored piston. $600 later, she runs good. Stupid Doos are expensive.

The problem with most of the burn downs this years is the quality of the fuel not the oil. There has been more burn downs this year then ever. Most of the octan you buy now is lower then what the pum says.the oil companies are starting to cheap out and still having record sales and the price is 2 dollars cheaper per gallo n and there making the same amount. Not trying to start anything political just letting you know about all the burn downs.

'99 srx 700, 7000 miles, yamalube, previous owner jetted leaner than stock, cold out.
'95 ski doo 583, spi pistons, 600 mi on rebuild, ring locating pin failure, hooked port.
2009 ski doo 500ss, 70 miles, yea, 70, piston scuffed both sides, claimed cold scuff??
ski doos both w/ ski doo oil.
I bought srx not knowing it was leaned out, ran great, too much throttle for too long in too cold temps. always pull carbs & see what the last guy did, lesson learned.

Pro 116 and/or others, could/would you recommend a product (other than race gas/100 oct+) that can combat the (less than premium) premium purchased at the pump?

The problem IS is there's really nothing out there that is effective and reallynorthern srx said:Pro 116 and/or others, could/would you recommend a product (other than race gas/100 oct+) that can combat the (less than premium) premium purchased at the pump?
helps, does what it's supose to.
