Does all 700 SRX cylinder heads from 98-02 fit each other? I am looking at replacing a couple and some people list them for 98-99 and 00-02. I looked on babbits online catalog and 8dn-11311-01-00 & 8dn-1311-10-00 were the two part numbers.Thanks for any help!
 
yes but but u need to put 3x98-99 or 3x00-02 together they are not the same specs
 
specs are different, If you mix then one or more is going to have different, HP numbers as well rpm curve , Makes the motor work against itself, so to speak.
porting is different on cylinders... from 98- 99 to 00 up. Motor will run, but not like you want it too.

I suppose I don't understand your logic. Each cylinder has its own coil and fires separately, no pistons/power cycle pushes against the next, it pushes with the next. Exactly how does it work against the others??
Perhaps one is working harder than the other but not much. Even when running sometimes the sled see's good traction then the next its loose so the rods/pistons are always seeing different loads, never EXACTLY the same.
So you have a seld like this or had one?
I do so I can tell you if its running so badly it amazes me how it managed to pace the ski-poo and articcrap so well...
While I would prefer all the same jugs, I had 6 and I picked 3 of the best and being a person that has done it I have had '0' issues.
 
If you have different porting on 1 cylinder versus the other, The ported cylinder if done correctly will be making more power, in a different rpm range than the others. All of the pistons / rod assembly push the same crankshaft, If they are not making somwhere near the same hp/ at same rpm.. Than the motor is going to have more vibration/ balance issues. This is not to say it will not run, But its not going to be running like it was designed too, or at the performance of having 3 some what equal cylinders/piston setups.
 
The differences that are trying to be explained are NOT going to be noticed in the driveline such as power surge at the track, which the give in the belt will reduce. They are shown as harmonics or vibration. Do a compression check, and if your compression is more than 10% out, then it would be wise to make sure that all 3 heads have the same volume numbers to put the combustion numbers back in balance.

I wonder what the difference is on a viper, seeing that Yamaha has "staggered" the compresson.

120 across the board! I thought the only difference was porting which will not increase compression.(?) I used the 98 heads on all three.
 
Generally with porting you will lose a couple of pounds of static compresson. "If" you wanted to, you could update your 98 cylinders to the '00-'01 porting specs without worry of power loss.
