Is it safe to re-use a viper headgasket, or should I purchase a new one?

I would say that if the heads are off put a new one on. Why go through the trouble of doing it twice for the little bit of money it costs. I know Bender Racing has a head gasket that claims to help with coolant flow but I don't know much about it. Maybe someone can comment more on that.

don't reuse the gasket....that's the cheap way to do it. just buy a new one. is your sled modded w/triple pipes? if so, get a new bender head gasket or hauck head gasket.

A head gasket,no way!!!
guys, i would have gone broke if i had bought a new head gasket every time i pulled a head or cylinder. After about a dozen or so times, i did finally have one fail. that is, i reused one about a dozen times in single/double/ triple/ and even four layers. I can not even say that the head gasket failed as the head had a low spot in it at that spot. If they are cleaned, sprayed with copper head gasket spray and torqued under a flat head, they can be reused many times. I have also done this several times to sx motors which run similar head gaskets.
a word of caution, when you buy the spray, shake it for about 10-15min. after spraying, spray upside down, remove tip and clean with solvent, then store the can upside down. this stuff has such a heavy product in it that is so sticky. if stored right side up after using 1 time, it can clog the end just from settling.
to reuse the base gasket, use nothing if all the black coating is on it, if some has pulled, i use yamabond, never had one fail.
to cure the head cooling issue when you go to pipes, use a stock head gasket and a srx base gasket. this will even out the temps. the base gasket is trying to keep cylinder/head temps the same with the single pipe. when you change pipes, you have changed the temps to be more like a srx, more even.

I reused mine this summer after a ring job, base and head gaskets. That was 1300 km ago and no problem. Of course I made sure they where in good shape and all the black coating was there. Cleaned everything and retorqued properly it should be fine. Next time the engine will get new ones though.
