:yam: I have a 97 600 xtc about 4100 miles on, never rebuit. I am thinking of doing it before the ring problem may happen. I need to know do i just take pistons out and put new ones in. Or what i will have to do to the cylinder walls to make them accept new pistons with out a problem. I've never rebuilt a motor before so any steps would greatly be apprecatied.
Thanks, Matt

You should hone the cylinder walls with a honing stone on a drill. This helps keep a film of oil there. Best to coat the walls with some injector oil before putting the head back on.
Hope this helps.

Remember those cylinder walls are Nicasil coated so do not hone too far. Just a slight cross hatch is required. Check the piston skirts for cracks. The twins have the most piston slap. Other wise just re ring and go. ;)!

Basically to rebuild it just hone the cylinder walls and then new base and head gasket, and of course pistions, rings and the rest of it. Then I should be set to go. I just want to change pistons out before the ring turning problem happens.
Thanks for the help,
Matt ;)!
