i have met alot of techs that can fix a motor but have no idea how it works, that said, i have been reading on this forum, and some are saying oil has nothing to do with a burn down this is incorrect, it has a lot to do with a burn down, on a two stroke motor when you lean the fuel supply you also lean the oil supply and by doing this there will be a melt down, from piston rubbing on cylinder wall with not enough lube.so if you have an crack in intake boot or bad seal or any air leak in the system, its not the air that blows the motor its the lack of lube that blows the motor, the reason is that because of the leak the motor doesnt draw in enough fuel mixture gas/OIL into crank case, and there is not enough lube there for piston and cylinder and bearings, the first to take the hit is piston and cylinder, that are running agianst each other with not enough lube to separate them this happens below the rings, above the rings there can be detination from not enough fuel but it will most likely lock up before that is a problem. now with the new ethinal fuel you have to jet up to bring down the combustion temp, but this does not help what the ethinal does to the oil and if the ethinal has a high water content thats even worse, now i dont want to start an argument and cant afford to do study but ithink synthetic oil might help being that you dont pluck engines from trees there man made and i believe we can make a lube better than nature :o|

huhhhhhhhhhhhhh not sure of that ..u can give more oil and less gaz to lean your motor your gonna have a nice surprise lolll.....gaz keep the piston cold so it doesnt melt ....

lack of oil does not cause burn downs,a seized piston sure but not a burn down.lean fuel mixture is what melts the exhaust edge of the piston .deto sand blasts the squish area and some times breaks the ring lands off the pistons . to much timing can burn a hole through the center of piston ,oil has nothing to do with any of these failures.

i personal in my 35+ years have never seen a perfectly oiled cylinder score below the rings or melt down, i have seen a ok oiled cylinder with a hole melted or detenated in middle of piston, which would happen with poor mixture more oil less fuel and under jetted, and that was premix and at wot for a long time, now that was a fuel issue, alot of what i see today top of pistons are ok sides of pistons are scored and cylinder scored thats an oil/lube issue. now we can agree that factory over jets right ,there has been a lot of virgin sleds that have melted down lately, and i beleive its from the ethinal in the fuel seperating the oil. now the fuel mixture enters the crankcase as a mist mixture of oil, gas, ethinal, water, additives.well the oil, water, water saturated ethinal are heavyer than the fuel vapor, with the cycle of the motor the fuel vapors are forced up into combustion chamber along with (some) of the rest, now in the bottom of the crank case you have oil, water, and ethinal saturated water, now ethinal is good cleaner so it breaks down what little oil is there, thank god its not instant, but it does leaveing you with a poor quality lube with water mixed in on bearings ,piston, cylinder, all of this under rings on the skirt half thats why i beleive its an oil issue and its the same on new/old 2stroke motors im not saying all burn downs are from the bottom but i beleive alot are misdiagnosed look at rings if rings are groved from running on scored bottom that is not a top fuel melt down its a bottom lube melt down if you are running a one lung this will most likley seize but your running trips /twins when your running these there are other cylinders helping to push/pull might feel like a miss at wot :o|
