2003 Viper. Runs Fine Except When You Pull The Hand Brake The Instrument Cluster Shuts Down And The Tach Goes To Zero. Does Not Effect The Running Just No Instruments. I'm Thinking A Shorted Brake Light Hot Lead. Where Might This Be?

Does your headlight work??? If so, the voltage should be fine. My instrument cluster is also out (as of last weekend) so also hunting for the short. Lights are fine but the high beam indicater is on when the low beams are on...so looking for a ground fault somewhere.

You are experencing the same isssue that I and several others had with the gauges cycling when applying the brake. While it could be a short, I beleive it is the stator. Lots of info on this... Do a search.
Note: The heads of the screws that hold on the stator on strip out easy

Good luck!

Low voltage caused from a failing stator. To try to help verify, unplug one or both headlights to take away some demand and test it, bet it quits resetting the gauges when you hit the brake.

ekmoor, your issue sounds more like rubbed wires somewhere, I think you're on the right track looking for rubs...JERSEYJOE's exact symptoms have been pretty common last year and this year, including on my own sled. On my sled, hitting the high/low beam would also reset gauges, as well as the brake lever. I went through harness under motor, wires under tank and seat, wires around steering column, etc. Stator cured the issue.
