FLUKE 62 Mini IR Thermometer.

I use this to tune in almost everything, but its only a helpful tool and not some kind of miracletool..

You can find out which blade is the warmest on your secoundary sheavy, and when you go uphills then stop on the top and open the hood. it only takes a few secounds to find out the themperature on the sheave blades and also the belt if you want to know or find out about problems..

I also use it to find out if there are difference between the 4 sylinders on my V-max 4 specially (I love it!), exhaustsystem, the whole Coolingsystem.

Is there other out there that have found the value of this little thing? :)

just keep it away from ign. parts when running there not sheilded and will be ruined if kept to close for to long and lazer dot is worthless try it on a burning cig once but it is a useful tool have mine for years works great! oh and the lazer is good for something dogs and cats like to chase it! lol

EGT probs are useless to any other things then just what it is ment for.. btw, you need to know why you have those EGT before they are helpfull... right?

IR Thermometer is usefull for almost everything, the main thing is that you know what you are doing.. Knowledge is the key ;)
 
btw:

LESS FRIKSJON ----> COLD (more speed!)
MORE FRIKSJON ----> WARM (slows down speed)

NEED I SAY MORE???
 
til dere på HSP :) leste i den gamle tråden min at dere følger med ;)

nå har jeg fått de på mekonomen til å innvistere i denne mirakel tingen ;) ved å demonstrere bruksverdien for dem! hjullagrer som det er vanskelig å bestemme side på, kan man lett bare måle seg frem til i stedet. forskjellen i varmeverdi endres på et par minutter på veien. Og så kan man måle når f.eks termostaten åpner uten å stå å holde i slangene. Og så er det lett å finne ut om det er bra nok sirkulasjon i kjølevannet, spesiellt på biler der kunden klager på at kupeen ikke blir vamr..

kunne nevnt mange flere bruksområder men det trengs ikke..

Til snøskutere så er denne tingen rett og slett genial!! ;)
 
hahaha. kom bare over det siden jeg er mer på denne siden enn hsp. joda den funker til sitt bruk som er ganske mye ja.
 
While we "others" at the hsp forum also see the uses of this thing, it still can't replace EGT probes. That is what the discussion was about. The thread started with a guy asking for EGT's for his F7, and you recommended him buying the IR thermometer instead.

yes why not? his snowmobile are stock, and he asked for something cheap.. You all (not all but some) went crazy when I recomended the IR thermometer..

EGT is not for the everyday stock snowmobile driver with no skills at all!

Its like buying a Computer for 10 000$ just to play solitaire or minesweeper.... a lot of people does it, but I dont think it is a good investment..

The reason "we went crazy" is because EGT's are used for real time egt monitoring, and you cannot do that with the IR reader unless you open the hood at speed and point that thing on the pipes. Even then you'll only measure the temp of the metal of the pipe. You cannot measure the effects created by E.G (example) load, when lifting the sled on a track stand and revving the engine up to below engagement (3500), as you suggested for tuning. At this speed you're only on the pilots. You cannot check your needle or main jets if they are correct. For proper tuning, you will need to know how to measure things. Why do you think people look at their plugs after say wot runs? You cannot measure much by 3500 rpm.

I hope you not belive I dont know what EGT is.. It is a usefull instrument for those who need it! But yopu need to cheack your reallity thinking and stop beliving that everybody need them... Thats just not the case..

and btw, read what you say in red... thats it ;) end of discusion.. ;)

The IR thing is not useful for monitoring exhaust gas temperature at all. The IR unit can be used for measuring surface temps such as sheave temps, but for doing anything with in on the exhaust, it is pretty much useless IMO. I suppose the guy wanted the EGT for engine monitoring, and for that he needs egt gauges, simple as that. You don't have to be an expert to enjoy the benefits (for non tuners it is the actual exhaust temp in real time) of the egt's if a professional sets up and calibrates the egt's for you.
 
OK, do you think the two of you can agree to disagree on this subject??? Because the banter is getting a little tiring.

Both TOOLS have there merits when used properly, you just need to know what it is you're trying to achieve.
 
Maybe some other members here can give their opinion on whether you can replace egt's with that ir device.
 
My mission is to prove that your claim that the IR device can replace egt's for engine monitoring or for jetting purposes are truly false!
 
how can somebody replace EGT (or whatever) if they dont have those???

you just dont understand what I'm trying to tell you.. I give up!
 
Replace the function. The IR device cannot replace the egt function. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Ask ANYONE here wheter you can tune carbs with that thing and that without load on the motor!

But, you CAN measure fever with it.
