lol, my oil cable is as large as it goes, the threads are completely used up, and it still gets about 100 miles to a quart, so i left it. Wonder if something else is going on, like maybe a bad tip on the oil pump?

I think there are factors at work here, if your cable free play was truely set at 33 it would be running oil lean! Please verify!
Concerning the fuel screw (pilot screw), once the carbs are off flip them over and directly in front of the float bowl you will see the top of a slotted screw recessed into the carb body, that is the fuel screw which directly controls the mixture at idle and just off idle. The spec should be 1.5 turns out from a lightly seated position. (tighten the screw clockwise until it LIGHTLY seats, then back off the screw counting the rotation to 1.5 turns) On a side note if it is truely running rich at idle you may try it at 1.375 turns as tightening the screw is lean vs. loosening is rich.
Ensure all three carbs are set the same.
I hope this makes sence.

I verified my pilot screws and they were at 1.75 turns out on all 3 carbs.
I gather from what you've been telling me that this would explain the running on the rich side. So I now set them all at
1.5 turn out form a lightly seated position.(pretty much as soon as the screw touched bottom, back out 1.5 turns) So my sled should now technically run better, correct?
I haven't started the sled since march when I fogged it, but I fired it up last night after the reassembly and had to put gas in the cylinders twice before she came to life :0)
Man I miss that machine, even though she's sitting in my garage..
I hope this tweaking you've instructed me to do will eliminate my problem S.X
Thanks,

I forgot to mention that my sled idles at about 2000rpm, is this ok?
I'm getting backfires now, and hard to start as well.
I think I'm going to go back to 1.75 turns, it ran well like that at least, right now it's running like crap
I don't know.. I'll just set my screws back to the 1.75 and see if that helps out.

Morley,
Sorry to hear of your increasing troubles, you may want to repost under engine troubles or something. There are alot of very good tuners on this site from what I have seen with far more knoledge than myself, I'm sure it can be figured out.
