Fuel Recomendations

I want to use a blend of racing fuel with pump gas this winter in my high performance sleds just as a "insurance policy" - anybody have any recomendations? - leaded vs unleaded? - oxygenated vs non-oxygenated?

I believe it would be a waste of money. But its your money, so spend it on whatever you want if it makes you feel better.
 
Magic - funny that you suggested the VP-u2 - that is simular to some 101 I had in the past - I might have to use the u2e because they have outlawed the use of MTBE here in Michigan - thanks
 
There is no sense in running race fuel unless your sled has the compression to burn it all. You should be able run pump fuel with no problems unless you are running a high compression motor. Although if you want to spend the extra money it shouldn't hurt anything.
 
Thats not necisarily true speedysrx, if you jet your sled to run in certain conditions using a high quality race fuel, the results will be good for sure.

If you choose to mix your race fuel with pump fuel, you might as well not even try to get your sled to run perfectly due to fluctuations in the quality and properties of pump fuel.
 
Yes I believe that there is such a thing as bad gas. If you are just trail riding pump fuel should be fine. Higher octane fuel will not hurt but if you do not have enough compression or timing it will not burn the fuel efficently and you will actually go slower. But it is your money do as you want.
 
I lost a cylinder in a slightly modified engine last winter on some bad gas and the temp was below zero - every since then I have added 1 or 2 gallons of 101 to every tank of pump gas just so it dosen't happen again - I was using an MTBE oxygenated unleaded fuel and the sled ran very good on it - now here in Michigan MTBE can no longer be used as an oxygenator - only ethanol can be used (which I despise) - I was curious what race fuel others use - maybe that is how I should have posed the question the first time!
 
Decent gas is all you need. I agree boost is a waist unless runnin high compression. You wont make a noticable difference for the buck. But a person might be able to run a sponge in there exhaust and squeeze it back out in there gas tank to reuse what it wont burn.

Actually, honestly ive tried the boost and though it was a noticable difference, but really all I was noticing was performance changing from temp changes.
 
snowextreme831 - that was the point of my post - where I ride (U.P. of Michigan) the pump gas is not always that good - dosen't seem foolish to me to add a gallon or two of "good" stuff just as an insurance measure - if you had ten gallons of not so good gas in your tank, wouldn't two gallons of racing fuel make it okay gas? - or maybe a little better than okay gas? - I'm not advocating running straight racing fuel in a stock sled - i'm just trying to make good gas out of what might not be so good of gas
