Ok, I have rebuilt the primary and secondary clutches, put in new plugs, cleaned the carbs, adjusted the oil pump to no avail, disconnected the oil pump and running premix at 40:1 and it still is smoking and running terrible. Is it possible the head gasket is leaking coolant into the combustion chamber? Could I have a bad plug wire and it is missing? Where should I be looking next? There must be something I am missing? :dunno:

rejet that pig ..put the next size smaller mains in and drop the needle one notch! also what I needed to do on my 94 was to put different spark plugs in ..mine always fouled ..go to a br9eya type plug and you will be happy!

Dont forget to watch your plugs!!

I disconnected the oil pump cuz it appeared to be dumping too much oil into the fuel. The plugs are oil covered (wet). There is also a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust. So bad I can't stand next to it when idling unless there's a good crosswind. It does run better after all we did, but still not right. I wish now I would have noted the jetting when I had them apart. I will try rejetting as you said. I will also check the compression.

did you set the float hight in the carbs, mine is a little newer but I had all the same issues. I set the floats and after all my frustration it was better!!! I tore everything a part, and replaced a lot of stuff. Check the floats its easy to miss.

im on my 3rd year of running iridium plugs that are equivelent to bre8,s. no problems atall,if you go back and search my posts from earlier on i also moved the needle but i cant remember to where ,the sled runs great!

just looked back on old posts of mine ,i moved needles to 1.5 position and then i closed air jets and moved out 1 1/8 turn and adjusted from there.for my sled its worked good as ive put on a lot of miles in all weather conditions since ,proably doesnt hurt that i also only use synth oil.

I would look at the compression might have a bad ring,

I wouldn't change heat ranges on the plugs but you can step up to the eya which is a splitfire and will burn better and reduce the amount of fouling.
If the compression checks out look at the mains and needle the 152 is stock i believe.

all i did to my sled was over a thousand miles ago,and for my sled it worked out perfectly!if you were to try a different heat range id be carefull ,for my sled it worked out great, they are a perfect color and the sled runs as good as it ever did if not much better.i spent a lot of time on the carbs and the plugs and am perfectly happy and confident that i got it running the best it ever will but as i said every sled is different and all i can do is suggest or tell you what i did.though your perfectly correct in suggesting a comp check first other wise he,d be just shooting in the dark.

Thanks for all the replies. I have checked the reeds when I had the carbs off and they looked fine, no cracks or chips. I tried both the Iridium BR9EIX and BR9ES with the same results. Although I use the Iridium in my CR250 dirtbike and they are much better for sure. I did not check the float level when I was in there. I think I need to lean out the jetting. Before I do that, someone mentioned possibly a leaking case seal or head gasket, sucking in coolant. How would I know if this were happening? The smoke looks blue not white. I will get back to you with the compression numbers soon.
