Does anyone know if a '74 TL433F might have had an electric start option? I was looking at the bellhousing of the motor and see that it has a bump-out area with threaded bolt holes that looks like it is meant for a starter. If it did come with that option, does anyone have the part numbers or any tech info for it?
Thanks,
Mills

We had one with electric start years ago. The battery sat in the front storage area and the starter button was between the gauges. I thought it was stock but ours had a few hundred miles on it when we got it. It was the dealers sled, he may have put it on.

Hi Mills.......
The 74 TW433F came with electric start,,,,Yamaha USA web site has
parts break downs on line for most models , incl 74 TL..
It shows a kit...need to find a ring gear to bolt on and a starter,
relay and button....I didn't check to see if EW433 were the same
starter ....I have been wrong at least once before , but expect
73,74,75 433's to use same starter and flywheels in all but the
srx and gpx...( EL, EW, TW etc)...
Good point and cond and a squirt of premix fuel down its throat
a couple times is normally good for the season..The 74 had diff
recoil dia. than 75 ,,,75 easier to pull (never tried switching?)
and it HAS to be in neutral for a cold start....did you ever fix
the shifter ??? Start in N , warm up , kill it and just before it
stops turning ,jam it in gear and restart.
Those first pulls are just pulling fuel back up the hose
Good luck

Ron,

I don't suppose that any of the electric start parts off my '93 Exciter II will work on the TL without a lot of major fabrication on both the parts and the sled?

maybe this might work for Yamaha site
http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/m...L2hvbWUuYXNweA==/Parts Catalog/starthere.aspx
.....scroll to btm of page and proceed to parts catalogs..
and the answer seems to be,,,not even close in the design of
the flywheel or starter....It would be nice to get electronic ign ,,,
...I was contacted about selling a 74 TL....but I'm not currently
interested and I think your sled is "family" as well...
A fellow from Olgilvie MN..looking if anybody wants to sell one..
let me know and you can have the info...Not my address to post
on the form w/o asking first..
...I tried the yamaha prompt above and it worked so you
can see whats up

Ron,
Once again, Thank you for the information it is really appreciated.
You are correct, the TL I have is a family sled and will not be sold. It is the first seld I every rode and was purchased new by my father.
