Do you have your suspension out of the sled? If so, put the strap on and see if it pulls the shock up a little. Assuming you have Viper shocks on the skid.

Thanks. I don't have it out yet but am doing that tonight. I roughly measured the straps on my buddy's SRX and guessed about 9". He's out of town so I can't go back and measure it again
I'll see where I'm at with the Viper shocks in. Should I not even try it with the stock '98 straps?

I heard some people used the stock straps off the short travel and just played with the T. rods, but I'm not sure how it works. I did viper shocks on my sx and made my own straps. Can't remember the exact lenght but I can measure and get back to you.....With all the snow we had you should be riding not doing maintenance.......

Here are some measurment I found, I think my straps got to be a little short since I cut them at 15 3/8 for some reason, but I don't think it matters that much. The red onbe should be the one you have and the blue one the Long traveled ones.
8" Travel models limiter strap length=371mm (14.6")
11.5" Travel models limiter strap length=396mm (15.6")
That is the rubber section of the strap, end to end.
Minimum threads above bracket(not the nut) is 10mm(0.4")
Maximum threads above bracket is 35mm(1.375")
2001 stock settings were: Vmax 15mm, Venture 25mm, SRX 32mm(short travel)

This dim in blue is unfolded, correct? I'm already at 13" folded with the Viper straps.
Not doing maintanance just looking to switch to the long travel for the weekend. Can't wait to see the difference! I did the front last night, made new shock mount berackets out of SS. It lifted the front almost 3"!!! Here is a closeup pic.

I got my rear suspension out and yes I do have the smaller straps. Now the Viper ones that I have are 18.25" (18 1/4") long so I will cut them down, thanks for the info.
Another question I have is what spacers should I have on the transfer rods? I have just one thick one on the bottom, it is .625" (5/8") thick

I can measure that spacer tomorrow....It's cold now
and you should have one thin one on top, at least I do on my adjustable rods.....
Where do you ride usually...?

I'll put in what was on my buddy's adjustable ones,.125 on top and .187 on the bottom. I grabbed them from him to make my own. Just had to wait for the paint to dry. Here's a pic.
I don't have a place that I usually go as most of my friends got out of snowmobiling. I go wherever. Last year I rode the Willard Munger trail a few times from Hinckley to Duluth. The one ride I took this year was from Willow River to Grand Rapids. Stayed over night and came back the next day. That was my only ride AND it was on the weekend that was 20 below all weekend long. I want to go! Anywhere! How about you?

I usually just ride out of my front door. Lake mninnetonka and surrounding trails, not that great after a few guys go over but is better than nothing, I was planning a trip to the UP for the weekend of the 14th of March but all the guys from the site backed out....I want to take a trip somewhere but I hate to ride solo....
Maybe we can get together sometime, today we put 70 miles around my place with a member from here (sleddinair) Andy, he trailer from the north suburbs.....

Sounds like a plan. Another friend and his wife were going to go up to Hinckley tomorrow morning and if I can get this back together tonight that will probably be what I'm doing. I really want to try this out!!! I usually go with MartyF from this site. He as a '00 SRX and we have the same riding styles.
No plans until this sled is back together.

I never spoke with Marty but I know I live really close....If you ever come this way we should get together with him also, or maybe plan a road trip for a weekend or something...will see....
Hope that skid goes in smooth.....

There has been nothing going easy with this sled! Everything is froze up from the steel to aluminum mating. I can't get the wheels off to get the transfer rods off! Any ideas? Guessing I'm going to need a press??? I fought the rear skid for an hour and then my Dad stopped by and gave me a hand...another hour. Not sure how I'm going to get it back in. Finding more bushing that should be replaced now too. Just want to get through another month.
I'm game for a trip, road trip, weekend or whatever. I just don't want to take time off of work as I'm planning a trip to Maui in April. When I'm together and there's snow, let's go!

Those wheels have a circlip on the inside. Take off the clip, then pull the wheel off, then I used a 3 pronged gear puller. Be carfeful, I put just enough pressure on the puller and gave it a good tap and the bearing poped off. When you put the bearing back on, just put in the freezer for few hours before to get it real cold, it will go on easier.
Unless you are changing out all your bearings all you need to do is one side then slip the axle out the other side.

Ok sounds good. Only one problem....slip? Nothing slips on this machine unless there is worn out bushings.

I hear ya, I rebuilt my skid this fall. Lot's of worn & broken parts, the w-arm had to be welded and the center shock had lost all it's pressure. I have adjustable transfer rods, they were on the sled when I bought it, They had lost their adjustability somewhere along the way. I had to put them in a vice, spray them with lots of PB Blaster, then turn them with a pipe wrench. I cleaned them up and greased them now they work great.

After doing more reading on this site I found out that I have the longer transfer rods on my sled already!!! Now I don't have to change them right now. I'll put my adjustable ones on at a later date.
