Still collecting parts for my rebuild. When cleaning the pistons I found this one has some scoring in one pin bore that is more than what I would consider normal. I'm thinking it would probably be ok with a new pin since there is good bore on either side of the scoring, but want some more opinions from those who have rebuilt engines more than me! The rest of the piston is in great shape. Also all my pins were blue where the edges of the bearings run. I seem to have plenty of oil. Is this caused by being too lean? Do I have to replace all pins and bearings because of it?

the bearing in the pic look rusty
It's not rusty, no signs of rust in the entire crank case. I don't think that's why my main bearing went. The rod bearings are discolored from heat but they didn't wear into the pins.

i would replace piston, pin, bearing, rings start fresh, check rod end bore for spec. check oil adjustment, use good oil ,sythetic is good

Thanks for the input guys! I decided to order 3 new pins and bearings along with all new rings, I had the cylinders honed and will be using three good used pistons. I have a used crank assembly on the way so if it checks out good, I'll be putting things back together just about the time the snow is melting! :o| I got to go out riding yesterday my 440 Polaris next to my buddys 02 Viper. I have to say I was a bit jealous! I did do my best to enjoy the ride and pushed that little 440 to a FUN level ;)! :letitsnow
