Srx Long Travel

I am in the process of long traveling my 99 Srx and was having a conversation with a friend about it, He told me that If I wanted to truely long travel it I should also be putting longer radius arms on.
I was wondering how important this step is and what might be the disadvantages if I just run the stock arm's ?
If I do get the longer arms what is needed for the front shocks ?
I did plan on putting the one inch extensions on my Ohlins but is anything else needed?

with the 1" extension you could leave it as is but most often you change geometry to much causing more bump steer. If you want to truly long travel it, longer radius rods, steering rods and sway bar spacer will be required. I did my brothers with the Maxx Perf brackets and parts listed and it rode great!!!
 
I put viper shocks on my 98's rear skid. I gained more travel but with the angle of the track compared to the front suspension it just wanted to dig in deep powder. I lost a lot of flotation, I suspect if I had long traveled the front to match it would have worked a lot better and my track angle in front would have worked out better.

I was wondering if you had added the front shock extensions and the viper straps to your sled when you long traveled.

I was not able to find the link you mentioned, I think that for this year I am going to run with the stock arms and see what it does. I would like to see what you got (a link would be great) Thanks for your help!!!

I bought viper shocks and limiter straps. I put them in my skid and when I let the straps out all the way the rear of the track was lifted off the ground because the front end was so low. If I would have put on longer front (Ski) suspension it would have lifted the front of the sled up and the track would have then been completely flat on the ground. What I had to do was suck the limiter straps in quite a long ways to pull the front of the track up so the whole track sat flat on the ground. I lost some of the travel by doing that but it still had more suspension than stock. The only problem I had was getting it to plane in powder. I'm sure it had something to do with the angle of the track but I was always getting stuck in deep snow, even with the 1.25" track. If you can somehow go with longer front shocks to lift the front end up I think you'll be much happier with the setup. I was still happier with just lengthening the rear over the stock 8" though. As long as I didn't land towards the front of the sled I could jump pretty high with no bottoming.

i have asked this before with no luck. but if you put yiper trailing arms and the longer spindles on would that help in keeping stock geomitery and raise the front end up. anybody??
 
blue who, This is funny you asked because I JUST finished putting viper spindals and trailing arms on my SRX with long travel. This definially helps and it adds a 1" more clearance. I put some of our aluminum spindals and arms on and it looks great. So yes it will definitally help.
 
yeah i thank you for the reply looks like a good idea to me.Do you have a dealor up here in ontario? or does any body have some viper spindels for me
