Pulled the top of the sled today. Only second time Ive done this and am questioning the tops of these and the left (pto) piston. What do you guys think. And there was a post on here that had a buch of pics and description of pistons; does anyone know where that is? Hopefully I can get the picture to load...

Left is lean no wash. Other two are a little lean for trail riding I like to see alittle more wash then that.

and to mutch oil ....

yeah good call, I can't seem to get it into my ridin buddies heads that more oil isn't how you prevent burn downs, my buddy just burnt his zr 800, both pistons exhaust side gone, he rebuilds and cranks up his oil, guess we'll be tearing that one apart again real soon

yeah, the left pto piston is lean. the center and mag pistons have very little wash marks on them. i would be fattening up the jetting on that thing. what mods to you have done to the sled and what year srx? not enough wash to keep me comfortable on a trail ride. you could also see some scoring setting in on the pto piston....the exhaust side.

This is a 98 srx 700 with right at 3100 miles on speedo. Im the second owner - I bought with about 2200 miles on it. It doesn't have any mods on on motor. Ill look into the carbs and see what I have for jetting - Pretty sure its gonna be stock but Ill find out. Do you guys think I should go any deeper then that?? Thanks

mopar I pm'd you

I agree its lean on PTO especially...you can see where its trying to melt a hole in the piston! Check and clean those carbs. Go back to stock specs on all the jetting...mains,needles,needle jets, needle clips and washers, pilots, air screws, check all of these. Replace the fuel tank filter and check the little filter screens under the float needle seat.

Ok. A friend took measurements on everything today and found pistons to be out of tolerance and the cylinders to all be in tolerance but had variation, he wanted to take and get them honed before any decisions would be made but thought that they would be 'ok'. So my questions is, is this something i need to worry about? Seems that as long as they meet all tolerances they should be fine. What are your thoughts on this?

Is there someplace I can buy the whole piston kit - piston/rings/pins/gaskets. Looked for quite awhile and could only find them by the piece. If not have you guys had any luck getting anyone to give you a rate for buying everything? Thanks

bought my stuff at my local dealer and pretty much was at his mercy, but i see some guys on here with good praise for rich motorsports (one of the site sponsors here) maybe try him, i didn't find this site till after i did my rebuild so i didn't shop around

I buy from CB Performance (site vendor, member 2ooosrx on here) and have had nothing but good luck.
