rings

a broken ring won't cause a meltdown, but it will cause cylinder wall, head, and piston damage....deep gouges and scoring. possibly crankbearing damage too, but usually just the top end gets the damage.

ok , heres the deal. trying to figure out what happened. put new power valves in and adjusted , remember ? thanks daman !! . it was running balls out. kicking the crap outta f7....went to mich , ( im from youngstown oh ) rode 5.6 miles and she burned up #1 cyl cluth side burnt the piston past the ring gland the other two look new ... this motor hasnt been apart 12,000 miles. i take meticulous care of it .....could it be the power valve gaskets cuz i didnt replace them ?? just wanna make sure i correct the prob

happend to me one time .... power valve hit the ring and broke the top piston over it ...

ok you said you did not have this engine apart for 12,000 miles right? Well from what I was told and from what I read here. You are to change your rings every 3000 miles. This might be a reason they let go... just a though.
