hey guys. what the best way to scrape off the gunk on the pv's? I just got brand new ones this year and I REALLY don't want scratch them at all. also, what would be good comp #'s? I know it is more of a % thing, but what is decent #'s? I know it has the staggered compression, just wondering how different they are. oh, all this is on my 03 viper

If u stay on top of it, soak in simple green for a couple of days and use plastic scraper..
compresion I'd say 118, + or - 5

is the 118 + or - what they are when new, or getting worn?

I was spliting the difference between my two testers on a good running 2000 srx with 1000 miles at the time.. 02 viper about the same at 5000 miles with no rebuild also..

I agree, just frustrated that even with a dremel with a scotch pad I cant seem to make a dent. brand new valves with a tad over 500 miles running interceptor, just aggravating since I would go a good 2500 mile season running Yamalube and have no issues

wow...only 500 miles and they are that bad? I've run over 1200 miles since the last time I cleaned mine and they still look pretty good. I plan to clean them when I summerize it.

Really????...Thats odd interceptor is a lighter weight oil with waay more detergents then yamalube, should be better not worse. did anything change?
try soaking your vales for a few hrs before cleaning, hard to believe that a
dremel with a scotch bright(red pad)will not touch it,i grind hard thick gaskets all the time at work just eats it off.

not a red pad, I will try that. I was pretty aggravated. I was having to only clean them in the off season going as long as nearly 3000 miles between cleanings. then I changed to klotz and they started clogging every couple hundred miles. said screw that and went to interceptor and now I am about 500 miles between clogging. thought it was because the valves were looking a little worn and the coating was worn off in a lot of places so they were new as of this season and the sled was serviced as usual, by the same guy since it was new. another 500 miles and they are slow to close and I had to work to get 2 of the 3 out. I am all ears for ideas lol!!

are you overly rich in jetting or oil?,, has the sled been driven by a grandma.

Interesting... I've used klotz and Polaris gold over the 1200 mile period. However, I've used Klotz for majority of the 3200 miles on the sled with not much buildup on the valves.

everything is all stock, the settings everyone says are too lean in the oil dept
and on my last trip north I hit 105 on a closed section of trail, is that grandma like??

could it be my using mostly regular and not premium fuel? I know yamaha says it is fine on regular but is everyone that is having good luck running high test? I guess I am about a 50/50 mix if I think about it. just some places that only have regular...

I have heard gas has a little part in the mix but i dunno if i beleve that,i run
89 in all my sleds(not srx or vm4)and things look th same inside no matter
what,so your running lean on oil then?
if one puts around all day running trails going slow no wot or 3/4 you'll get pv build up.

I guess I have been riding around home and doing a lot of 30 mph riding (small trails) with the occasional 60-70mph burst in the wide open spots. think that is getting it all clogged up? ahh, remmeber the days of not having valves to maintain?? lol! I would miss the low end grunt I have WITH the valves though!

The problem with slow trial riding on a pv sled is @ low constant rpms the motors loading up(oil/gas/jetting)not burning clean/efficient and not cycling the pv's open and closing(helps cleaning too)very often so they sit there longer getting gummed up. always good to hammer the flipper once in wile sort WOP making them vales work/move.
