I have a 04 er viper with a 136 kit. It's stock with a 53/43 helix and green spring. The clutches will slip at low speed when it's loaded up. I did the secodary bushings and it didn't help. Next step is new springs and belt. Any segestions or just run the stock parts. I also thought of lowering the gear ratio one tooth.

thanks

I have the same problem My sled is all stock. I thought abput cahning the gears in the chain case. I think they are geared a little different. Hopefully someone responds. MY secondary does not open. It just smokes the belt on the primary clutch.

My 136" viper is stock gearing with a heel clicker 40-10 kit in the primary and an advatage 48-40 @ 70 in the secondary. I can see 2km/h on the speedo and not burn a belt.

I think you need more grabbing pressure in the primary down low as the stock weights don't do that well i changed to heel clickers.

I agree that the stock weights don't have enough shift force down low. I should explain a little better, it'll pull the belt down in the secondary and slips the belt. I'll do the springs, buttons and the belt. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

I have run into this problem before on my 600SX trail Mod.[now a 144"] We trail rode and drag raced this sled in improve stock from 1999-2007, it has over 9000km on it now. With my sled it had enough drag races on it that the belt had worn a ridge just around the engagement area of the primary clutch. On engagement it would grab the belt so hard that it would pull the belt down in the secondary, bog and slip, it became impossible to launch...had to replace the primary clutch to fix it. My 700SX trail mod [144"]was doing the same thing the other day when I was running my SRX against it,[I use the 700sx as a benchmark to set up the other sleds], I guess its time to change the primary on the 700SX as well. High clutch engagements are bad for wearing a groove...one of the downfalls of the hard compound near bullit proof Yamaha belts...at least thats my experiences.
If you have a groove warn in your primary sheaves , swap the clutch with someone elses and see if it cures it.

It does have grooves in the engagement area. I'll have to take a closer look and see how deep the grooves are. Has anyone had any experience using an ultimax belt with the viper, I believe it is a softer compound. Is machining the groove out an option if they aren't too deep.
