I have experienced "tunneling" in the UP several times in the past.
An interesting note . . . (at least to me)
By the numbers, areas in the UP have seen as much snowfall in recent years (a few of them at least) as back in the 60's - 70's. However, those same locations have not seen snow pile up during the season nearly as much. I wonder if it is the warmups we have now, or something else. I remember the warmups back then too, but we didn't seem to lose snowpack nearly as much. I am convinced that there is something else in play. Maybe there is more heat generation in the winter then there used to be. Maybe it is a different type of heat (mostly wood or oil burning back then). Maybe the snow is different.
I really don't know.
