Snow... in the old days.

I'm hoping one day we get a nice blizzard so I can drive my sled to Dowtown Minneapolis...Wouldn't that be cool Andy...?

I remember the 1966 Blizzard here in Winnipeg.I was just a wee lad then,but remember my dad and I shoveling an actual tunnel in our driveway.That 's all I remember from that storm.I'll have to ask my mom about what it was like.How did we even get out of the house then???

forecasted to turn to rain,we,re getting into that time of year again!on a side note its being reported that lake superior froze all the way this year ,not a very common occurence.
 
I was in the sew last night.Thought there was less snow than norm but the trails looked like they allways do.Mint......tobad shes going to melt.
 
I have experienced "tunneling" in the UP several times in the past.

An interesting note . . . (at least to me)

By the numbers, areas in the UP have seen as much snowfall in recent years (a few of them at least) as back in the 60's - 70's. However, those same locations have not seen snow pile up during the season nearly as much. I wonder if it is the warmups we have now, or something else. I remember the warmups back then too, but we didn't seem to lose snowpack nearly as much. I am convinced that there is something else in play. Maybe there is more heat generation in the winter then there used to be. Maybe it is a different type of heat (mostly wood or oil burning back then). Maybe the snow is different.

I really don't know.
 
Never seen to mutch[Packing Snow] this year.More grandaler??Light and crunchy...sounds like a munchy bar....still white ..lol

trails are mint !their also very solid with a good base as far as i can tell and should survive a few days of warm or a little rain no problem.the only reason it looks like less snow is that weve absorbed 2 rain storms in the last month which knocked the snow down quite a bit.but being a realist it is march and march does funny things.

I grew up along the Missouri river just south of Bismarck ND and can remeber walking on the snow banks to get on the roof and shovel the roof off every winter.
I also remember drifts along the rural roads that were as high as the bus when riding to school. The highway department had to use one of those
4 -rotor/ 2-stage snow blowers mount on the front of a duce-and-a-half to eat through them just to open the road.
I would have to agree with Ding that the snow seems to be different now than it was back then but, I couldn't tell you how.

I was working rick.No sled with me.Took a baler up to the soo and went over to sudbury the same day.1000 kms in one day lol

Dam trails looked nice from the cab.
 
I remember getting snowed in once for 4 days in the spring when I was probably 3 or 4 years old (so 1969 or 1970). I know it was 4 days, because that was what I was told much later. We got 3' or more, had no power for most of that time. I remember my dad cutting a hole in the lake for water. I grew up in NE Minn. Then when I was 8 we moved to the UP (Ishpeming to be exact) for a year, I remember the snow drifting from trailer top to trailer top, in the trailer park we lived in. My mom won a brand new AC Lynx that year in a raffle. I sure wish winter would come back like it used to be.
