I pulled the case cover today because the snow is crappy, My current gears are 21 top 40 bottom. Somebody suggested to me that an 18 tooth top is the way to go but my mechanic friends say that the smaller radius of the 18 tooth driver is pretty hard on the chain. So based on that a 19 tooth top and a 41 or 42 bottom would really gear me down. Any thoughts on just going to a 19 top and running the 40 on the bottom?

the 42 on the bottom is going to make the biggest difference for instant trackspeed. i would try 19/42 and then mark your primary with a sharpie marker and go ride. the belt will wear the marker off the clutch when riding....if you are within a 1/4" from the top, i would run it...if you are more than say 1/4-3/8" you need to gear down more...(go to a 18 ). as far as helix i really like my 48/42 bender with a green yamaha secondary spring....it has great backshift and seems to work well in most all conditions. i have a stock motor with head gasket peeled, reed spacers, gutted silencer/single pipe, and heel clicker primary setup.....orange pink orange primary spring with 40-10's empty and rpm's are real close (82-8300). most of my riding is 5-7000 ft in NW montana.

Now you got me thinking of new gearing.
Have 19/39 now. But thinking to go 20/42. Then I need to use a 70 link chain right?
What gears are you running. I run on TEAM hyvo gear at the moment!

i am running the hyvo setup 18/42 with a 70 link. i think at 20/42 you can use a 70 but anything larger you need a 72 link.
