Porting
My 2004 MNT Viper was ported by Lowell Horning. Look up Powder Lites website and there will be a link to Lowell. He does great work. Pistons were cut, honed and balanced to match the porting and to be equal in weight. This motor work was done by the previous owner of the sled.
BE prepared for more fuel consumption.

i used a race logic template on my viper and a few other vipers. it does work. gives you a nice gain. be prepared to take your time, or you'll have junk in the end. i've heard nothing but good things about lowell horning too and i heard bender does great. i won't send nothing there tho, due to a bad past experience w/them.
here's the link to howell:

on a previous topic on here about porting, many guys said to stay away from hauck, cause they don't give a very good port job for the money. also, be prepared for mileage no better than 10mpg. depending on what pipes you have and what else is done, you may even be around 8-9mpg, but who cares? YOU'LL HAVE POWER!! LOL.

just got off the phone with lowell. Very willing to discuss the options and nice guy. Im currently not going with tripple pipes so the gains would not be as noticeable he told me.
I'm thinking about doing this to my viper also,I run SlP tripples,Does anyone know what kind of hp this setup would make. 160ish????? maybe. Also can you still run 91 octane.
Had my porting done by Don (mrviper700) via the contest on this site. Don does very good work and is willing to answer your questions to help you dial-in your jetting and clutching.
Hp gains are very noticeable and my mileage has not suffered at all. I run the factory exhaust as well.

Good to hear I sent don an email havent talked with him yet. Im glad to hear you noticed the gains cause I was seriously considering(from phone convo's) it to be not cost effective.Everyone said just tripple pipe it and be done.stein700sx said:Had my porting done by Don (mrviper700) via the contest on this site. Just curios if he threw out any numbers of what kind of gains you would see.captnviper said:just got off the phone with lowell. Very willing to discuss the options and nice guy. Im currently not going with tripple pipes so the gains would not be as noticeable he told me.
no he didnt. You have slp triples? slp's page claims 160 hp with their porting. However They dont seem to have the same amount of time to discuss things on the telly. Im sure lowell would be more than happy to discuss hp if you call.Herky said:Just curios if he threw out any numbers of what kind of gains you would see.

single pipe port job
ive been thinking about portiing my single piped viper as well.....i dont wanna go tripple pipes and the mountains rape the power....i like the idea of a mild port job and still stickin with the stock pipe. i wonder what a realistic # would be for horsepower gains with the stock pipe....vs. maybe a bender 4x4 single. 8-10hp for a stocker? what u all think?

I run 91 octane fuel in my setup. I still put in some octane boost every tank just to be on the safe side.
What does your setup consist of ? Are you running tripple pipes, different heads or basically stock with mild porting?Powder Trax said:I run 91 octane fuel in my setup. I still put in some octane boost every tank just to be on the safe side.

I forgot to add the domes in the Peak Head were shaved to match the porting as well.
As for reliability...no problems by me or the previous owner-and he had NOS installed too.
Yes I'm running CPR Simmons triple pipes, Peak Head, Boysen Reeds, ATTAC.
If I run the one of thr sets of domes where I live, then I will need to run some AV Gas, but I stick to the ones so I can run premium and save the others for the mountains.
