in the SRX.is it better running 47 or 51/43 Helix?

47 or 51/43

I have a -01 srx with stock engine @ 12000 miles and using 8dn-20´s 4,5/4,5 rivets www spring, in sec. 51/43 dalton and green spring @ 60 degrees. The rpms are from start 83-8500 and at higher speeds climb to 85-8700. I´ve seen that at high temps and heavy snow the rpms drop so in those conditions I twist the sec. to 70 degrees and that works. I´m a little surprised that the rpms seems to be very close to what I see last year. Because last year I was running stock track and stock shocks, This year I run 1.25 predator 96 studs and sxr shocks and I raised the front, changed drivers from stock 9 to 8 noslips and changed gearing top gear from 23 to 25. One difference I can see my top speed dropped from 115 to 105mph, I understand this but I thought my rpms should have dropped to. I tried my stock helix last year but I don´t remember that it changed my top speed much, but in my area of trail who is very low speed and twisty I like the 51/43 because it shifts out fast and keeps the rpms down and loads the engine and it seems to like it. I will try the stock 47 degrees to see what happens, knowledge is nothing without experience.

I just want to bury the needle..just once..damn.Last year was close at 115.Think I need to rebuild the motor to get it up to snuff again.Got nearly 6000 miles on it already,it must be getting tired.I shouldn't complain, not to many spots you can open it up anyways when you are riding. What I love is how fast it takes to get there..now that is a rush.I love when I am going 60mph and I pin it and the ski's lift. That is cool to. ;)!

I might look into the 8bu's or a 54/44 helix next season. This season is nearly done, and I am going to enjoy the next few days or so just riding.I will be debating whether or not to re-build top end this summer, probably should anyways. That means taking the whole motor apart and I haven't done that ever before.

Those 8bu's sound like the ticket. Turk and tony have been telling me to try them for a couple years now!!!! I just don't know what they are like as a trail weight. But for you blue.....sounds like unless you are doing mach2 with your hair on fire, you are not going to be happy. SO LET IT RIP...lol What kind of track do you have on that hot rod???

your so funny..lol. I just have a 1" Predator 6-pitch.Still would like to look into studding track next season, especially if I have motor re-built and some porting done to it. Yep,who doesn't want their hair on fire at some point ;)! .Need to bury the needle at some point.Well I am off to pu some fuel for the sleds, got a day of riding to do.Later.....lol..hair on fire...good one.

As turkey said a 51/43 is a little shallow but aftermarket helixes shift more aggressive then a oem rx1 helix.if your looking to be quick use a multi angle helix but if your looking for mph use 8bu with a 47 helix set up for speed running it will acheive 110mph on radar in 1000ft
I would assume you have to use a green spring at 80.Gonna try it this week.Got .8 inner and 2.4 outer rivet installed. Will try with stock primary spring first and maybe try w-w-w later in need be. ;)!

well changed my pilots back to 42.5 and got that low end snap back..feels great.I wish the snow was more packed....
Still with 8DN-20's with 4.5 inner and 3.6 outer, stock primary spring,47 helix with Red spring at 70.On the river on a long stretch got to 100 mph and that was it. It was -6 Celcius today and sunny out also.Clutches were totally cool to the touch.I did like a dozen high speed runs.
With that setup I am running, launches and revs to 8500 quick, drops back to 8200 and then climbs to 8400.Gets to 90 mph at 8000 rpm.Got to 100 today a few times ,but as I had it pinned for a mile the rpms start to drop to 8200..why is that??? No belt slippage and like I said clutches are cool. Maybe I should try 4.5 out rivet and wrap to 80 again. The snow conditions are slowing me down a bit for sure,it is semi smooth on the river with some rough spots that slow me down when I hit them. When I hit 118 last year it was basically on bare ice/snow and smooth. Now that I have studs..could that slow me down that much?.Track is loose enough that it rotates on it's own. When sled is on the snow I can push sled with my hand with no problem as track tightness is not an issue.I have the track hanging down about 13/16 " from hyfax.Maybe I should tighten it up a tad because the ballooning is slowing me down possibly.Anyways SRX feels snappy and arm pulling again.
OH yeah..got stuck in deep snow today to.. :o| :o| that pissed me off and took like 20 minutes to get out. #$%&*
