KNOW 4 STROKES EVER HERE. RX-1 IS AWFUL. I HATED IT WHEN I RODE IT. HOPE THE APEX IS BETTER. I HAVE 2002 AND 2000 SRX. NEVER GET RID OF THEM. WHAT WILL MY NEXT SLED BE ? NO DOUBT 1978 SRX FOR VINTAGE SHOWS. THEY CAN KEEP 4 STROKES. 3:16 (tony)
Tony, Tony, Tony C'mon bud give the 4 bangers a chance. I really think that if you spend a lttle time on the Apex you will put those SRX's away for your vintage racing!YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:KNOW 4 STROKES EVER HERE. RX-1 IS AWFUL. I HATED IT WHEN I RODE IT. I'll definitly get a new one someday but I will keep my srx hopefully forever. Mine is gonna be set up this summer with an extension on my expert x to a 136" 1.25 ripsaw cromolied pipes and silencer, 6" tp 8" pivot riser , boss seat, and a lot of customizing on the graphic and color scheme( thinking orange) and rox sledtreds. Lotta money but a lotta fun. Love my srx. But If I HAD to get a new one it would be an Apex with an expert X and yoshamura pipe and silencer.

Love to hear how loyal almost everyone is to the SRX. I wanna get on one of those or the Viper next. Tripple tripples are one of the coolest sleds out there, and the speed is intense. From what I've heard you sacrafice a bit of top end for the comfort with the Viper. The SRX has it beat in speed, but not for comfort. Is that correct? Stock vs. stock. Just curious to know, as I will have to decide what to get onto next.

Well, I bought a new Apex this year and I think I rode my old SRX more, not sure why. Just something about that motor, bulge in the hood that does it for me.

pazer the dealer in sault ste marie had a 2001 srx brand new on his floor as of a month ago. his price to me was a little nuts. quoted me $9000.00 for it. yamaha has a 7month no payments incentive on right now. that why i bought a 05 warrior from gordan bay for $10500.00 plus tax extras etc. all the dealers i talked too said his price was about $1000.00 too high for that sled as it is a non current.

$9000 wow a little more than i want to spend lol, but theres a 2001 on autotrader.ca for $4500 with 1000km, and a 2001 in barrie for $2500 with 14,000km on it. ill have to sit on it and think for a little while and decide what to do
Thanks for the info Maim

The Srx
Reading all these posts, I had to jump in. Since I am lucky enough to own a 1996 V Max 4 800, a 2001 SRX, a 2003 Viper and a new APEX GT, I can give honest feedback. Hands down I would take the SRX for all around riding. True mine has a Viper rear skid and a Maxximum front end so it rides better than the spine crunching stock set-up. The Viper is a better touring sled and I have done my share of 300 miles days on it, but in stock form it lacks the punch of the SRX. True modifications would help but I keep this one around for others to ride. The VMAX 4 is like having an old Vette. It makes a lot of nice noise and has the timeless look, but trail handling and lack of fuel mileage make it impractical for anything other than occasional use. The APEX GT in my opinion is the biggest waste of $10,000.00 that I can ever remember doing. I just came back from another 500 mile Quebec tour. While it is good on fuel, even better thqn the SRX, it has lots of issues. Mine darts so bad in sloppy conditions that I would label it as dangerous to ride. The rear shock is now blown out, and I kept my fingers crossed the whole time that the chaincase would not explode on me. It also overheats unless ridden on the slushy stuff, the kind you can't control it on. People keep telling me it's the set up, but I am thinking that there is some major weight distribution issues. Bottom line I am not ashamed to admit that my $10,000 APEX is a pile of SH*T, and I am 10 times happier on the SRX even with thw 2 stroke issues.Anyone that tells you differently is embarassed to admit to admit the truth.

It's crying shame Yamaha dicontinued the SRX. Could you imagine a what a 2007 SRX would be like, all them 4 strokers would probley have another change of heart.

Right on Tony. I am running your clutch set up in both!!!!!!!!!!!!
STAY TUNED SPORTS FANS. RUMOR HAS IT THAT YAMAHA IS GOING TO RELEASE SOMETHING NEW IN 2008 AND THE FUTURE IS NOT IN THE 4 CYLINDERS. RUMOR HAS IT THAT THE SRX NAME WILL BE REINVENTED.
I think the new APEX chassis has potential over the old PRO ACTION If and only if they loose about 100 pounds. As much as the fabled SRX will still be around, I would doubt if Yamaha would ever sell another 2 stroke.
Most likely scenario is a supercharged triple 900 with direct drive in an APEX like chassis. It's likely to be low and lean. For me, my 2001 is getting and a revised front and rear suspension set-up, fresh motor and on to another 7000 miles.
