How can you test to see if you are getting power to the bulb at startup?

Is there a way to make is stay on? Kinda like a car does in test mode.

None of my sleds flash on start up. I am trying to figure out how to test this?

97 & 98 vmax (should be the same)

00 & 01 sxr (should be the same)

Need info on both

on your 97 vm drain the oil bottle does the warning light come on when started? and also did you pull bulbs check with another 12v source?

is tack and speedo lights working? w/t light gets voltage from the tach

on your ;01 theres a head fuse but lets work on one at a time.

Yes everything work on all the sleds. I did get a very low voltage till you rev the engine than the volts come up. I was probing the water temp light and the voltage is to low to check unless you rev it. So I might just replace the bulb.

Also yes the oil light does work.

I do know the water temp light does work because of it staying on but I thought there was a way like pulling the connection off the water temp sensor and it would come on. I guess not

The temp light bulb gets 12v power from the tack light power i beleive, then the cdi controls the ground triggering a connection(light lights up) when an over heat accurse. or upon start up doing a bulb check. check that wire too.

update....

looks like my 97 98 and 00 does not do this. My viper and 01 does.

I do not see any difference in the 98 00 or 01 under the hood.

I was getting all sleds ready for winter and I am now on my

98 vmax 700 e/r

I checked all my lights out. If you loop all the sensors & gauges they all work.

I still wonder how do I know if the sled has the feature of not?

This sucks not knowing.......:o|

yes I have owners manuals and service manual from 97-02 It does not say anything about this box or how to test it....

I never saw a service manual that does not show anything about a part on a vehicle. This just sucks.

I just have wiring schematics and most of it is the same thing.:o|

There has to be a way to know if your sled has this by

1. part number
2. part on the sled

You have any info on it?

perhaps i misunderstood your question, i wasnt referring to any box, just the fact that the owners manual per sled explained the 3 flash on startup. i thought you were asking how to tell if a certain model has it.

Yes anything would help. It seems like this is a very short topic to talk about because THERE IS NOTHING SET IN STONE ABOUT THE FEATURE IF A SLED HAS IT OR NOT. It really sucks because I thought yamaha would do better then this.

I think they let the ball drop on this when they built this feature.

I went to the dealer yeasterday to see if they could help. He checked in the service manual and could find almost nothing. We even started 4 used sled and none of them blinks at startup........

boy oh boy this just sucks
:o|

Thats strange why your haveing this issue ALL my sleds do this, even our 1994 V-Max 600,i have not seen a yamaha sled yet that dont,strange...

Well I wish all my sleds lit up when started. I am not sure the problem. I also don't have a spare cdi to check it with to say it is bad.

I just have a hard time believing that all my sleds have this. I would like to figure it out. What a pita :o|

something as simple as a bad or missing ground? i am with daman, all but one of my sleds do a code flash upon startup, and the one that doesnt was built from extra parts laying around, and i could have very well missed something.

With all my sleds they are are stock never touched them except 2 are long tracked. viper and 01 sxr. They both work. All other nothing. I working on them all right now. I see nothing wrong anywhere. I am going through each one and nothing with the light. I wish I new where the problem is at least on one of the ones that don't work. Then maybe I can figure out the other 2 and this will help other with this same problem if I can get it fixed.

The problem I am running into is there is no right up on this anywhere.

A diagnostic page would be great. ;)!

there's not allot of info out on this feature is the thing are your batters good in the E/R's it may not flash on start up if batt is dead or weak.

Have you checked out lighting coil, voltage reg, etc, etc???

it would be nice to have another CDI to swap in..

I am running without the batts because I am charging them. My viper n 01 does not have elec start.

I will check the voltage with n without a good bad n see what is going on.

Yes I checked the bulbs n they all work.

So bulbs are ok ....check.....
voltage?
batt?
anything else?

;)!
