Tips for putting Exciter to bed

Hello,
Looking for some advice. What is the proper procedure for storing my sled? I put Stabil in the tank and ran for a while. Some people say start it once a month, others say fog it,Other say drain the tank? I don't want any problems in the winter.
One more question what are the little things like are on the rear compartment (trunk)on the footboards? They are tabs that turn That might lock in some kind of a travel bag? They are riveted in behind where you sit along the tunnel-right behind your legs-there are 4 of them. Sorry for the poor description.
 
i just fill mine and start once a week and let run till heat exchangers get hot.i have always serviced carbs and never found carb dirty just my 50 cents
 
all depends mainly on what youre going to do? definetally put in the stabill and run it.are you storing it inside and going to start it at least once a month and letting it warm up?leave the lowest amount of gas as you can in it,the tanks plastic,starting it for short times only encourages condesation.i like to use stabill on low tank,1-2 gallons,leaving carbs full.fogg motor,with old plugs,pull fuel line and filter from tank and put rubber boot back on tank,replace when ready to run,add new fuel,run it then put in good plugs,dont fogg it if youre going to start all the time,most important thing is to take carbs off and clean before season,sync carbs,chokes,clean clutches and check chain case level,
 
Neither way is wrong but if i were you i would fog. Look in the tech section, there is tons of help for how to fog. It's not hard. I was out of game for a while and mine sat for 2 years after a good fog and i just cleaned the carbs before i got her back out and i had no problems. Been riding it for 5yrs now. The tabs on the back of the tunnel were for bags, had them on my 92 phazer when i had that.
 
Fogg the sled use stabil then leave it alone till next year,do not start it, try a search lots of info on this.
 
Here are my anual summerize steps:

1. Put my spare belt on and run it for awhile until the "kinks" from storing on the belt guard come out of it.
2.Pressure wash entire sled
3. Dry everything thoroughly including using the air hose to blow out bearings, pivot points, electrical, foam pads, etc.
4.Grease all bearings and lube-up pivot points
5. Fill with gas to prevent condinsation in the gas tank over the storage period
6. Put the ol'girl in storage shed
7. Fog motor using OMC Engine Tuner
8. Spray OMC down each cylinder and pull it over slowly a few times
9. Tape up the exhaust so those damn mice don't make a nest in there
10. Remove spare belt from #1 above and store both belts in the basement - taking your spare belt off the belt guard will help to keep the kinks out of it
11. Spray the entire sled down top to bottom, inside and out, all shock rods with WD40 to keep corrosion to a minimum
12. Cover the ol'girl up and let'er rest for the summer.
 
there are many schools of thought on this.

personally, i fill the tanks and add seafoam. we run them every 3-4 weeks up to full running tempurature and spin the tracks. every fall when we check a sled (5 are stored this way at the house) we find the carbs clean and debris free. top up with 91 octane in the fall and do pre season stuff and are ready to run for the season.
 
i do what mills said,seafoam in my experiance eats rubber gaskets,wont argue but will never use again,stabill,fogg motor,proven,cant go wrong
