2004 Viper mountain reverse fit an 01 SRX?

Will a 2004 Viper Mountain Reverse fit an 01 SRX

I have Viper reverse kits installed on my 2002 SRX,1999 600SX, + 1999 700SX. They are a direct bolt in on the SX's[have to change to Hyvo gear + chain] but take some enginuity on the SRX. See the Ty tech article on installing reverse on an SRX...a little work but I couldn't do without it now!!!!

It will bolt on but you will run into clearance issues with the exhaust silencer, chaincase cover, overflow tank, airbox, linkage.[see TY tech article] The only major differences between all the reverse kits [for Vipers/SXs/trailing arm Phazers] was the type of gear/chains + the bottom sprocket size. The Mountain Viper reverse kit uses Hyvo gears[like a 2001 SRX] and a 40T bottom gear.

According to a local dealer, the Viper Mountain kit will create more problems and added cost then if I just look for a standard Viper kit.

i think they maybe thinking of their own pocket before yours . I dismantle anywhere from 10-15 yamaha's / year . This year 2 srx and 1 sx had reverse , all the chaincase and components looked very very very typical . Got 1 from a venture on the bench and 1 from a srx beside it and they look the same other than the inner bottom gear and top gear .

Hope this helps !

I agree

I think the only differance you will find will be the gear ratios. Should be able to adjust that by switching top gear and maybe chain. If you don't want to relocate the coolant bottle I understand that the handle linkage can be moved over or the reverse can be operated with the stock parking brake handle/cable. If you are using the stock silencer you just need to saw off the battery box mounts on the chain case. I'm in the process of converting my 98 SRX now; don't even know what my reverse case came out of originally :dunno:
Good summer project!

To my knowledge the only difference in the mountain kit and a standard one would be gear ratio as the both use HYVO gears/chain,the rest of the stuff ( linkages, spacers & cover ) are the same.
As far as the shifter mount and relocating the coolant bottle you don't have to,relocate the bottle that is.All you need to do is add a spacer for the top mount of the shifter mounting plate (about 1.5" if memory serves me correct) and the bottom to the chaincase cover, just on the front (exhaust) side rather than in back. The coolant bottle mount will bolt back on the same way as stock. The only mod to the cover will be the machining off of the battery mount as mentioned above and you will have to make a tab(flat bar) to remount the exhaust by the footwell.
