Hello all, I'm new to this so bear with me!
I have a basically stock 99 Mtn Max 700 that I'm going to convert to a 151".
Been researching and found that the 99 has the bad angle of approach and will need to update to 2000 specs. Just wondering if anyone out there has done this conversion and would appreciate any feedback. I'm sure there is lots of obstacles like gearing /clutching etc. Found two kits online Hartman and MPI, not sure if one is better than the other! Thanks again for any info.
 
If it was my sled I'd look for a polaris, cat, doo skid and use that instead. Find a good 144 skid, set it back with a set of big wheels and extroverts and go ride. That way you can can rid of the poor track angle, get a lighter unit under there, and find something that is built for mountain riding. I have switched all mine to polaris based skids with Holz coilover kits. Works great. Just spent 2 days in Cooke and went everywhere my bud on his cat mod did. Just not quite as high or as fast:)
 
i did a mountain performance 141 set back 100 years ago on my 97 700 mm. The difference in powder flotation was amazing.
 
If you really want that 99 to work well for as little money as possible find a 2000 MM and take some measurements off the suspension mounting points. Drill the new mounting points in your tunnel and build some new rear drop brackets or buy them. There are several options you can do from there. 151 RX-1 mountain rails work with some modifications. You can also use your rails with some extensions also but you will have to drill all new mounting holes in the rails to make the geometry come out like a 2000 MM. I have all the specs for doing this if you need them PM me.
You could also do a setback of you current suspesion configuration which was very popular for awhile but does not work as well for deep powder especially when you start going longer than 144 with the transfer rods removed. Thats the kind of Update kit you can buy from MPI. They work OK but your better off setting it up exactly like a 2000 if your gonna spend the time. Dont forget to replace all the bushings while you have it all apart. They will run you 80-100 bucks though.
However, If you have some money to spend throw away the Proaction and install a polaris extra lite ,cat 1M or edge RMK skid.
 
i made my 2003 venture 700 136'' into a 151 mountain sled. everything on the venture is the same except the seat/backrest. i used hartmans 136 to 151 1999 MM long track kit and i LOVE it!!. night and day difference. i use the 2.25 inch predator track and a transfer inhancement kit too. hartman is great to deal with too
 
if you go with a kit, hartman is by far the way to go. mpi has no knowledge of there products and some of the worst customer service i have ever experienced, and they probably dont stock it anymore. site sponsor or not, hartmans knowledge, products, and service far exceeds anything from mpi.
 
I have done this on 2 MM's. A 97 & 99. We still ride the heck out of these.
I did 1 at 151 then to 162. The other is 144.
I have the MPI template for relocation and I also still have the original rails that are drilled for relocate. I changed out to RX1 151 and extended to 162 now. Easy job, a few tools some mechanical ability. Good to go. When removing the transfer rods 2 things happen. 1st tranfer is good, 2nd you get a boing rebound in the moguls. Not bad without drop and roll. Gearing is the biggest thing. With 8 tooth, depending on altitude, starting at 20- 40 is ok.
I run 18 - 42 with a 7 tooth 3 pitch driver.
 
don't even bothering calling mpi thay are finished with the 2 stroke sleds. I did the similar thing with my 2000 mm and needed some stuf but they moved onto the 4 stroke dept.

Tom Hartman is very nelpful and a great guy, call him up and he'll hook you up with something
 
i had a hartman 136" srx, relocation and rail/tunnel extension nice setup and they do these all the time , and service when having a problem is priceless.
