01 SRX skid questions

Those are the first run hot rods, theothers are the tc-3 they mount oppiste of each other. The hot rods you have do have a right and wrong inside to them. Maxdlx

I have the Bender transfer rods mounted and they are just touching the guide wheels on each side. Not exactly the clearance I was hoping for, but that's the way it's going to stay for now. :dunno:

Suspension info

I parted a few Yamaha's this last Winter and either the W arms are good or the break to a ton of pieces. The aluminum cross shaft can be re-used with new plastic bushings from Yamaha as long as it is not grooved up from worn away bushing and ran on the steel cross tube.

The top 7" idler wheels can be taken off easily with a three finger puller you can pick up at an auto parts store or I got mine from a NAPA. crank it tight on shaft and pull on sides of wheel rubber and tap back of wheel hard and will pop of with the bearing complete. You will have to buy the puller but can be used for other times with auto repair and such.

The springs probably should be replaced since they do loose their tension ans sack-out after awhile. You can get stiffer or softer onces from Pioneer and directly from Yamaha. Pioneer has a chart in their flyer that shows what sled came with and options available. You might look in your manual to see how much minimum and maximum treading should be for your shocks as installed.

A quick tip from Yamaha tech guys at the Minocqua test center. To adjust your front shocks on SX/ Viper chassis sleds, put sled up and a jack or milk crate with skis off ground and crank spring out till loose then crank in a few turns to just get spring some tension. That is a great starting point for the sled and go in as needed.

Hope this helps!

they are wrong, i think, I have never seen hot rods that were made for the 2000 up sleds. I have only seen them for the long travel stuff. I might be wrong but I believe they stopped production of them when they came out with tc3 rods that would work on either version and installed easier and sucked much more. is your sled long traveled?
you can space the upper wheels out and there will be no clearence issues. you will just have to remove the same amount off the gold spacers on the outside.

The rods that I am using are the right length for my 2001. I am using the forward holes in the rails like the originals used. The knurled area is just too wide. Is it OK to run the guide wheels wider than the rest of the skid? Or do they just need to ride in the window area of the track? I would hate to shim the wheels out 1/8" or so and trim the spacers and find out that the guide wheels are now too wide.

I am not using long traveled shocks, just stock length.

Bender transfer rods

Ok, just bought a new set of TS-3's and just opened the package here are some pictures of new ones this year and here are the instructions straight from bender for the 2000-2002 SRX.

100_0133.jpg

-Take the 14mm end of the wrench and remove the bolt in the bottom of the stock transfer rod.
-Next take the 14mm deep well socket and ratchet, and the 14mm open end wrench and remove the female end of the transfer system (slider assembly) drom the rail. Be sure to keep the washers in order when removing the slider assembly so they can be renstalled later the same way they came off.
-The slider and white plastic washers can noe be slid off the rod.
-At this time install one of the new white washers (enclosed in package) on to the stock transfer rod.
-Now slide the new TS-3 assembly onto the stock rod.
-Next put the stock white washer (thinner one) on the rod.
-Re-install the original bolt with the 14mm end wrench securing the TS-3 to the rod.
-Remove the black bushing from the stock slide assembly and install it into the TS-3 assembly.
-Fasten the slider to the rail, making sure all washers are in their correct locations.
Repeat this process for the other slide.
-Stock settings for the 2000-2002 transfer rods is line 4 they go up to 8

What is the thickness of the "new white washers (enclosed in package)"? Where do those thin black spacers and cotter pin go?
