electric start

You won't find much on it, but it has been done and I'm in the process of doing my 98 right now. It will be a couple of months til I get my engine back in though so I won't know if the charging is going to work correctly til then. You'll need the starter and ring gear which are common to many models. With the stock silencer you'll need to mount the battery in front of the left shock with a custom mount. The real tricky part is the wiring. SRXs didn't have the option so there is no plug-in in the harness to simply plug into. However the ignition switch has the wires up to where it plugs into the harness. What I did was buy an electric start kit used off a Venture and got the main harness for the sled also to work with. Then I peeled all the wrap off and removed wires from connectors, etc. and then ran what I needed along side my stock harness and plugged the wires into the factory plug on the ignition switch. I tied the charge wire (tan from the ignition switch) to the 12volt DC voltage regulator. There are a few ways to tie into this. I actually used a factory plug and plugged it into the test port for the PowerValve system. I just studied the wiring diagrams and harnesses and this was the simplest/cleanest method. The test port will still function properly just by unplugging it and plugging in the tester instead of the charge wire. I took some pictures and plan to make a tech article out of the whole procedure after I have ridden it enough to make sure all works properly. Also you will need to use a viper left hand motor mount bracket to mount the starter properly to the engine case or just cut part of the SRX bracket off like I will be doing. The other option would be to grind or machine the thickness of the mount off the aluminum starter case and then the lower starter bolt would go through the starter then through the mount bracket and into the case. Then the original SRX mount would retain its original strentgh if that's a concern.
Well that gives you something to think about. :)
