FRIEND OF MINE HAS A 1'' INCH ON HIS 01 SRX. I THINK HE WENT WITH 1.175 MEGA-BITES. VERY , VERY CLOSE. DUDE, I GOT TO TELL YA, THAT SLED WILL HOOK UP LIKE A ROCKET WITH OUT STUDS USEING THAT TRACK. 3:16 (yammie tony)
Of course you can stud it. A 1" track with 1.175 studs fits very easily in that sled.

1.175 studs will still grab pretty good?? with transfer rods

I have a 1" track with 1.18 studs.
Really close, but i run my track a little tight to compensate.
Hooks up real good too.
Cheers,
Rick.

mulderdad how tight is tight with the track? When I bought my SRX it had stock track and 144 studs already on.But I noticed after the first winter that my exchanger fins where being gouged by them and the tunnel has marks also from them.So I took out the track since it had seen better days and put in a Predater 1" with no studs.I am a little afraid to try studs again.
For sure the sled really hooked up with studs compared to now.I am tempted to stud again and yet hesitating to do so.

Agreed. I have a 1" aggresor with 1.175 Diggers on my '01. I did have to tighten the track a bit tighter than I'm used to to keep them off the rear exchanger (even with rear guards). The track lug goes all the way across which required me to notch it an 1/8" to clear the front guard and If I were to modify the rear bracket to somehow "bridge" the gap between the front end of the guard and the tunnel protectors, I think I could run the track looser
Track tension is probably close to the stock setting as I'm used to running the track as loose as possible but had some nicking of the rear fins. I marked all of nicks with a sharpie (about a dozen before I noticed) and tightened the track tension, flogged it hard in some whoops at speed and rechecked. I've never seen any nicking of the front HX.
Don't know that I'd go any bigger as even tightening the tension doesn't eliminate the balloning at speed.

do you guys find that you will loose some top end speed using studs on the track or not?

I've been told that studs will drop top speed which would seem to be true (added weight) but I really couldn't say. Neither track saw any snow without studs (studded since day one) so I can't give any back to back comparisons.

You might lose a mile or two on top, but the hook up and safety of studs outweighs that mph or two.
Just my 2 cents,
Rick.

when you say top speed are you reffering to river/lake running ?
1-if so than you are a brave man to try and run 120mph without studs .
2-top speed will surely not be acheived without them , you can have all the power under the hood you want , but if you cant put it to the ground than its useless. " they dont run run slicks in the rain"
3- yes you are addiding rotating mass , i have seen many many many srx 700 run 120+ on the gun with 96 to 144 studs several are on this site -jabber, valin , dhsrx , etc... if you have not acheived this yet than add the studs and look elsewhere for performance gains .

if you were thinking of removing some ....i have ran as little as 48 on the softer ice... to try and acheive top speeds , and it still felt pretty safe . I dont think i would try any less IMO ...got to keep you around blue .... d'ont know what we would all do without those short posts of yours ....lol......

True,, If your running on thin snow or ice, you will lose speed without studs.. To much slippage, track will spin without moving sled forward.. At those speeds without studs is pretty scary..
i can tell you no studs and river running is no good ...unless you like to be left behind ... the 600 twin (244 studs and stock track )was out running me ....on a srx 700 ...around 80 it felt like the front was too heavy and cutting into the ice and the track was trying to push but could not overcome the friction from the front ....so it was going down the lake sideways ...

a few weeks back I did a few wot runs on the river, which at that point had a thin layer of snow, packed hard and there was exposed ice surfaces. It was about 1 mile runs and I have to admit I had her pinned and nearly buried the needle..but the back end was sawying and I sat my azz towards the back and hoped for the best.I was quite aware what was going on and in the back of my brain was thinking.."what if the back end swung right over at this speed".I took some chances I will admit, but just had to see what the SRX had to deliver on pretty well ideal conditions for a wot run.I probably will put studs on for sure this fall.Is there any favorite or best studs to use.I have a 1" Predater Track 6-pitch which is not bad by itself. I guess 144 studs would be the way to go also and 1.175 seems to be the length to use with this track.

I will be doing a 1" hacksaw W/ 144 1.175 goldiggers W/ backers this summer. I have a 1.25 ripsaw now and just not enough traction in ice and hard pack but great in the deep stuff.

thanks 00SRX for thatinfo.Goldiggers seem to be a favorite for studding.

Ya, I have herd no complaints about the golddiggers.
