So, with the very icy season we just went through, I sit here again, trying to decide how to add some traction when its icy.

I dont like running conventional studs, and like the idea of these little studs

PLEASE DONT CHIME IN TO DEBATE IF THEY WORK OR NOT - NOT THE PURPOSE HERE

I have the ripsaw that has the little holes to receive these, and to avoid some of the pull-out stories I hear, I plan to epoxy all of them as I screw them in

My question is, with the ripsaw and front protectors removed do I ned to worry about killing my front exchanger (like with normal studs)??

Yes because they stick out same length as a conventional stud.Unlike a ripsaw ice-ripper track that only sticks out 1/8" past the lug.I would just buy a iceripper track. The screw in studs were never good...either they came out or broke off.

dang, Im not going to remove a perfectly good ripsaw to do it...I had a line on 100 of these little studs for a good price....perhaps an 8 tooth driver may allow this as well but, now I'm getting into more than I wanted to do

I tried them and basically they bend over very easy and provide very little penetration. more like a scraping action. the carbide tip doesn't touch in most cases, it is just the side of the 6 point head. and like Rich said, they will puncture an heat exchanger just like a conventional stud.

I put Bergstrom screws in my Venture. All they are is sheet metal screws with carbide chunks silver soldered into heads. 4 to 6 per rib(ALOT OF SCREWS) but not expensive vs studs. These work pretty good on the ice & in the icey corners. They do fall out, but keep in mind track is 8 years old with about 3500 miles. Not much room in there with only a 3/4" track but no heat exchanger damage. I think I throw as many going into trailer on ramp as we do on trail. Just screw a few more in if need be. I bought them a couple of years ago so I no longer have the bags with part #'s. Hope this helps. ;)!
