well the Red River is really starting to rise now.The city put up the flood gates the other day and the River on the Soth side of it raised 5 feet in 1 night. It went up a lot last night to,I can now see the water coming around the low areas and ditches. It is all starting to back up.I still should be fine..I think.Predicted level shouls be about 3 feet below my Flood pad,but Ice jam's
are making thing a little hairy. We have never ever had this much ice on the River system during an actual flood.A good ice jam could raise the water levels like 5 feet easy in 1 night. So I have to keep alert.Gone to my mom's today to finish up her flood wall with a whole bunch of guys.We have 5-6 days before the Crest happens.I will take pics of the rising water situation here.My sleds are on high ground and safe.

well the water in yards is not moving,so ditches are full and ground water exits. Here are a couple of pics of the flood wall uprights are in place.Just would need to carry the plywood and screw them in place to the 2x6"s.

We are 5 days away from the crest.Working at mom's house down from me.Noticed the water really climbing from afternoon on as the water has reached the field next to her house now.We ran out of steam and will continue tomorrow, but rain or snow showers are expected..that would suck.My back hurts so much I can hardly move nevermind lifting sand bags.
This is only early stages, but it is coming. Here are some pics.

the 1st pic above is just left of mom's house.Low area there and road shut down, the gravel road goes back to the Hwy is the escape route for all.No other way to get out.The pic 2 and 3 is the wall we are putting up at mom's house. The 4 th pic is a view from the back yard at mom's on a flood hill and pointing towards my house and yard. The last pic is the ditch along the Hwy starting to back up.Water is going all around us and slowly fills in.There are Deer in the fiels being forced to go West.Tomorrow it will even be higher and so on towaqrds the crest.Thge Flood is supposed to hit just past the 2nd worst flood in 1979,but below the Flood of the Century in 1997.

we had it HORRIBLE in Thiensville last year at the house we rented for 5 years. I still have pictures, but it was bad. Water was coming in the doors of the house, filling the lower level.

Last June was really really bad. So we bought a house on much higher ground in August.

Good luck to you all....flood damage is the worst, and the ins. co. won't help...

the Government helped during the Flood of the Century here in 97.We have all been Flood Proofed as their specs. If we go over that,I guess there would be a large Law Suit launched against them. There is still a Law Suite outstanding against our Government.Flood victims had to sign off with the Government Water Resources Div. after 97.My dad at that time did not sign off and said he'll let the courts settle the issues. He is basically demanding back $20,000 of deductible he had to pay for the Flood Proofing of his property.I had to pay out $10,000 myself..which I wouldn't mind getting back.
It is a little one sided. The people in the City get help no problem at all,the City rushes out to get people ready filled sand bags and lots of help.We on the other side of the Floodway are sacrificed,we loose our property and we have to put money out of our pockets. We don't get sand bags already filled,we have to fill them ourselves.

the water is climbing .There where fire engines and emergency vehicles passing the house this morning. When I left for work,1 mile down the road on the opposite side the Rural road was closed to traffic as water was going over.BUT..some dumbass thought he could ride his 1/2 ton truck thru, but went off the road and front end in partially in the ditch and water over the hood.He must of climbed out of the passenger side into the water and into the back of the pickup. Then I assume he called 911.What a waste od $$$ for the municipality,They sent a boat out to rescue the azz.I came home and the truck is still in the water, guess no one was going to pull that truck out until after the flood is over.Serves him right.I am sure the insurance won't pay for the truck submerged in Flood water since signs where posted that road was closed due to flooding. Some people have no brains I guess.
The water is climbing and now people are more concerned. It is starting to go over one of the connecting roads near me from the Hwy to the village road.Trucks are hauling in gravel steady and grading the road up,it has been raised 1 foot more since tonight. My back shed has 6 more inches in it today.
Here are some pics from my mom's place .she is good to go.Now we hear the crest will be another foot higher now.Now more to worry about.

already there have been 2 deaths related to the flood. An ederly couple in a small rural community were driving their vehicle on a road thru the water and didn't make it.The 79 year old woman's body was found, but her hushand of 82 is missing. They can't find his body. What a way to go in life, you live this long and die in a needless act. What were they thinking?????

Here are some pics of around my house

That really sucks Doug!

We're battling the overland water up near my place. Fortunately my Municipality had 8 steamer trucks going for the last 2 weeks so most of the culverts have been thawed out and the water is flowing.

When it so flat it doesn't take much to have the water suddenly appear out of no where. I had an inch in my shop already, but I think I have it dried out now.

Take care buddy.

I couldn't sleep well last night. All I was dreaming about was the water coming up and we had to try to escape thru roads under water..this is weird. My wife said the other day she was dreaming about it also.Of course she is afraid of water being as a young child she almost drowned.

Doug, I know that feeling. It is hard to sleep when there is not much you can do about the water anymore...

Hopefully all will be OK for you.

well it looks like the Province has updated the Crest to a new higher level. It will now be the 2nd worst flood since the 1800's.Now they predict 770 feet for the level. In 97 the worst flood was at 772 feet. Now that is getting close. That puts the water in mom's house at 2 feet above her floor, but her wall is complete.I hauled my plywood around the house tonight, looks like I will be building the wall this weekend. The road to my mom's house has now been nailed with water running over and the exit road out is just starting to be run over with the water at the entrance end.I may not be able to get to her house by Saturday, but she has enough food with her for the next 2-3 weeks. She is staying.
If it goes as high as predicted, the service road in front of my house should be under, stranding me here..this is the shits now.My wall is going up this weekend to completion. The water will be right up to my concrete pad and with wind action another foot.If the Flood gates are raised more.it will hit me higher. Can't believe we are in this situation again. There is alot of panic now, people are really starting to dig in for it.People who are higher like me were doing nothing, but tonight you should see all the action going on and the people out here.it is crazy.I don't want to leave my house.Once I get trapped in,my wife and I can't get out to go to work. That could be for several weeks. We have some thinking to do before the Crest on Monday, but I prefer to stay and protect the house.

I am really high,so hopefully I'll be good.Others around me are lower in elevation.Man I am getting a lot of debris in my yard from my neigbours.Railroad ties..etc.It hasn't gone over my driveway yet,but chucking things over to the other side and it is floating North.I heard that in N Dakota water is still high in places,it will all come past me eventually...lol.
