It's FLOOD Time

The province has now cut our access going west out of town by closing off the dike on the hwy . In 97 the water was 1 1/2 feet above the hwy on the west side. Was out at St Adolphe with some local youth groups on Wed. nite. About 80 kids made 4000 sand bags in just 2 hours. The water was at the hwy and in some places on the hwy along the river and towards our town.
Hey Doug, I hope that was not you that the fire dept had to rescue in the back of a stuck truck along the service road on Wed

I am really high,so hopefully I'll be good.Others around me are lower in elevation.Man I am getting a lot of debris in my yard from my neigbours.Railroad ties..etc.It hasn't gone over my driveway yet,but chucking things over to the other side and it is floating North.I heard that in N Dakota water is still high in places,it will all come past me eventually...lol.

Yes it is, the Minot area has started to go down but near Towner they canceled school yesterday and had to close the hwy between Norwich and Towner due to the flooding. Haven't checked what Grand Forks or Fargo look like for awhile.

we may have crested here. The North winds in the past few days has pushed a lot of debris up on my property.Today it is calmer and you can now see the water's flow going North now.I will be out there with my rake pushing all debris off my lawn into the water and making sure all big tree limbs and pieces of wood flow out of my property.Went out into the field behind my shed to tie down my 1000 ft irrigation line that is floating around. The water is about to the top of my Hip Waders at that point.Have erected 3 sides of my Flood wall just in case something changes, and the remainder will go up fast.I suppose the water will stay this height for the next several weeks, unless heavy rains show up or they would have to raise the flood gates.
The City is controlling the level much better this time around with the Flood Gates. They are wanting it to have a natural flow as much as possible. In 1997 they paniced and raised the Gates so much that we got nailed on this side badly. They are keeping the level in the City about 2 feet lower this time around. My mom told me that the water is touching her Flood wall in places,so they added extra row of sandbags against it.

We have hit about 3 feet lower then the Flood of The Century in 1997.But the rains are starting, and that will raise River hieght.it has been a lousy spring so far and looks like going into May it isn't much better.
Here are some pics of around my house today. In the back field behind the house, behind my trees I walked to the height my Hip Waders would allow me to.

for me this flood isn't a big threat.Down the road from me and towards the River, homes are surrounded and people are taking boats to get to their cars so they can go to work or school. The shed's floor is clear, everything is on shelves and rafters.Sleds are in my garage of course.I will be looking for a cheap boat and motor to keep on hand for the future.I woudn`t mind taking a ride on the water and go see how others are doing.I can`t even get to my mom`s house because the gravel road connecting us is being washed away by the current.`
The winds were blowing from the North at 45 kmh today and raised the water level a bit.In 1997 the flood waters were basically equal to the basement window height on my house. The Hwy and service roads were covered with up to 3 feet of water. They closed the dyke with mud just before city boundary and no one was going anywhere. We had a boat then and were able to go back and forth that time.
I think now it stands at 3 deaths from this flood already. One 72 old man got pulled into the current and a couple in their car got sweep away and their bodies were found 14 plus km`s away.
