Clutches and total miles on them???

I have a '99 SX that is about to hit 10K miles. I rebuilt both clutches at about 6,500 miles even though they really didn't look like they needed it. My question is - how many miles have others gotten out of their clutches? I am assuming at some point I am going to start seeing hairline cracks on the primary sheeves from all of the vibration and torque put on them over the miles/years. Is there any good way to do a crack check without having them magna-fluxed? Is there any "rule-of-thumb" ;)! (sorry I couldn't resist not putting that smile in there) for replacing clutches do to extended miles/years of use?

1997 Vmax4 with 11,000 miles. Bought it brand new. Nothing changed except for about four belts. and two tracks and one W bar. And one drive sprocket bearing. and numerous boogey wheel bearings, suspension bushings, exhaust manifold gaskets, plugs once a year. and ski skins and carbides. Gee thats about it.

I'm sure both primary and secondary could use a going thru but they have never given me problems.
 
Just shy of 12,000 on my Viper. Put a roller in the secondary at 5500, and replaced rollers at 9500. Probably due again LOL. Primary is still completely stock. Original weights, rollers and bushings. Spring has been replaced 4 times. Last trip my son said it was making funny noises. Mines an ER. The bolts holding the ring gear are loose. No heat cracks or stress marks anywhere on the primary. The triples are WAY easier on clutches than the twins. My 97 600 has been rebuilt 4 times in 8500 miles. Don't miss riding it at all LOL!!
 
dimensions?

Anyone have dimensional information for the sheeves (primary and secondary) so that I can measure them to make sure they are not worn excessively?

This is a good question and one I've been trying to get an answer on. My Attak has 10,700 miles. Clutches have never been touched. Its my primary sled and gets ridden as much as mother nature will let me! My second sled is a 2000 SXR with 9700 miles, clutches never been touched. I'm not worried about the SXR as it averages less than 1000 miles a year now. (friends or my brother mainly ride it.) If it breaks, I fix it. Now the Attak was ridden over 4500 miles last year and I don't want to be down due to a clutch malfunction. Is there any place you can send them to be reconditioned/ rebuilt? Mine are bone stock and staying that way. I am mechanically inclined but know nothing about clutches and would rather have someone who know what they are doing mess with them.
 
11,000 miles on a Venture 500, nothing done. Take it apart periodically to check it - everything fine, put it back together.

Old Phazer - have replaced a few bushings etc. in 20,000 miles, nothing more than once.

Makes me glad I don't ride Cats from those years - would have replaced about 8 clutches by now.

And just as many rebuilds on the motor, thats 16 sets of pistons!!! No such thing as just re-ringing Cats, if the cat motor is apart, it needs pistons:yam:

12000 kms on the mountain lite, and nothing but gas, oil, some bearings in chain case/jackshft and carbides. I might check the compression sometime to see if I needs new rings.

NEVER will I switch brands, ya cant kill Yammies!!!

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but how has the Attak been at that mileage? What have you had to fix/replace?
 
Attak has been great. Only major thing is the W arm cracked at 10,700 miles. I have never been stranded. I consider myself a little overkill when it comes to maint but its never let me down! I plan on running it for 2 more seasons....
