Decisions, Decisions 2002 SX Viper HELP!

Hello guys, looking for some help, I currently have a 2002 vmax 600 Er with only 2000 miles on it, love the sled, and considering handing it over to my wife, I was dead set on going to a four stroke, but we are talking some pretty serious dough, even used 2004-2005 are asking 5-6 thousand canadian. So I am re-thinking things, I was thinking the cost of running two sleds with gas and injector oil would be costly so was heading the four stroke route, however I spotted this deal and I think its a good one, just concerned about the mileage, any comments are greatly appreciated, also not sure about power vlaves, what kind of issues will I have or maintenance will be required with them?...thanks Greg.

Pre-studded ice-ripper track two seasons.
Rebuilt rear suspension
New belt, tank bag, hand guards and windsheild. 8600 true miles.
Lady riden. Husband said must go:-)

$2500 obo- moving- must sell!

This sled has been well cared since I have had it. There is one crack in the back side of the cowl, it was like that when I bought it. Other than that, everything is there. It has a new track last season, new oil pump, clutches have been cleaned and adjusted and the rear suspension has been rebuilt. I put a new tank bag, wind shield and hand guards."

Sounds pretty good to me. IMO Inproper storage is rougher than high miles. And before Daman pipes in... it's probably due for a re-ring. I would ask but wouldn't expect whether it's done or not to change the price.

thanks snomofo, I was given the very same advice about the rings, can this be easily done, by myself, assuming I know a little about wrenching, and grab a service maual and torque wrench or would it have to be done by a dealer, basically by doing the rings, would this be what is meant when I read on other adverts that the "sled has a fresh top end"?

Yeah, grab a manual and have at it.

Typically yes, "fresh top end" would mean a PM re-ring. But I'd ask specifically that question. If they start himmin' and hain' ask if any of the pistons were replaced and why.

I'm sure you've seen that car fax commercial "fresh paint", or "new interior". These can mean a lot of things so ask a lot of seamingly dumb questions about what was replaced and why.

Remember, you're there to buy a sled at the best price, not to make a new freind so don't be affraid to nit pick or piss him off. There WILL be another one just like it down the road.

You take a bit of a chance on the engine with that high mileage. Unless it was abused, the bottom end should be fine. God advice above on rebuilding the top end. Be sure to measure everything. If you don't have the tools, a local machine shop should be able to help you out. Even if you need new pistons and rings, it should be under $400 if you do the work. If the bottom end needs attention it is not such a good deal.

I try to figure out why the seller is selling, and listen carefully for signs of deceit.
