Hi, i just got a 2000 Srx 700 last year...

i was wondering if anyone had anything that would boost my performance quite a bite not to sure if ican chip it or somthing some simple stuff nothing to hard to do

i am half mechanic sorta so i can manage to do my upgrades myself

looking for more performance maybe some top end ive got plenty of accelaration it would be nice if sombody could tell me how to make it catty forever lol.... tricks n stuff

Thanks, Jason

Fire up the search button at the top of the page. The srx section alone can keep a guy reading for days. You best bang for the $$ will be clutch tuning. Unless you know what you have though it will be hard to know what you need/what you want.

Sorry nothing as simple as plugging in a chip. No computer on the old girls:)

if you want to boost the performance quite a bit, you can port it and/or big bore it. clutching always helps out. if you want more top end, you can opt for different gearing, but then you will lose some bottom end pull, if gearing for top end. once regeared, clutching will need to adjusted again.

alrighty thanks people for answer so quickly i have all summer to fine tune evrything on my sled now since i dont drive it on grass =)

i will go see my local dealer and look into a few things...

Do putting exhaust and jetting and stuff add abite of performance or what does it really change?

Thanks Jaosn

don't change the exhaust or jetting if stock. if ported, change the jetting. if big bored, change the pipes (if bored out to 835cc+), and change jetting for any big bore.

You came to the right place to make yur srx purr.
There are tonnes of senior members here to help, like ^^^^^^^.
If you need parts, you are better to get them here than your local stealership.
Start reading and then read some more about your srx! What is your clutching in it now? Any extras on it or stock? Reeds, transfer rods, studded etc?
Have you had it topped out yet? What was your top speeds? Radared or just speedo?
BIG difference.

With all due respect, I think it is unsound advice to suggest modifications to Jason at this point in his sled ownership. It will be very frustrating to him as he tries to sort out the changes while he is still learning basics fundamentals, ie, that there are no "chips" in conventional carbed sleds.

^^^^^^^^^^^

He asked and some people replied with some suggestions.
Is that not why we are ALL here?
For input and help with our sleds. You don't know if you don't ask!
That is why we told him to start reading and then read some more.

I definatly agree with clutching first, like most pro racers say all the hp in the world is no good unless you know how to put it to the ground, I have a 99' and spent a whole winter on playing with the clutches on the lake and at the drags and am now planning on doing some motor work. IMO

Keep asking q's Jason.
No stupid questions, just stupid answers.LOL!
Cheers,
Rick.

I think Essarex makes a good point about the seemingly novice request from Jason and I think it was a thoughtful and respectful answer, not a stupid one.

Jason wants a bit more top end and also do wheelies forever which aren't typically compatible.

I would suggest first making sure everything is operating as expected. He doesn't say what condition or mileage but since the sled is 8 years old, I'd start with checking clutch/drivetrain/suspension wear, powervalve operation, clean carbs, cylinder/ring wear and other basic PM items.

I think most would agree that out of the box, the '00 SRX was calibrated pretty well and as Jason suggests, acceleration wasn't a week point. But poor maintenance and worn parts would be the first things to correct.

In order to and before any of the above are performed, I'd suggest getting a shop and suspension manual. Do some searching here Jason as this is your one stop shop for all things Yamaha. Welcome!

...and put a helmet on ;>)

Here is a guy who just joined TY and has some questions.
He gets some sound advice from senior members that probably know a little bit about these yamaha sleds (just a little) and try to answer his q's.
Now when i see a post that will deter a new member from posting inquiries, it ticks me off. That's the point i'm trying to make.
WE ALL DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THESE SLEDS AT ONE TIME!

Cheers,
Rick.

Seems to me knowing what the sled is or isn't would preclude sound advice.

I think Essarex's point was why send the kid out and buy pipes/porting/clutching when WE don't know what he has. He did not post what condition the sled is in, mileage, how it was stored, etc...

Heck, I saw recommendations for clutching when we don't even know engagement or shift rpms. If his track is binding due to a worn or broken skid, would you first recommend pipes?

I didn't see Essarex's post as a deterent to asking more questions. In fact, it appeared to me to be the most sound advice of all the replies.

The first words out of my mentor's mouth before I knew anything when asked about making my new 500 Indy go faster was "leave it alone". I was at the time a professional auto-mechanic and it was still sound advice.

When I saw you make a snide remark to someone who appeared to be looking out for a newbie that's what ticked me off.

My advice to Jason is to get to know your sled inside and out and make sure all basics are covered before hanging go fast parts. And by all means ask a lot of questions. You'll soon learn who to listen to and who not to.

Bottoms up!

Snide?

I was just trying to make sure the new guy would keep asking all his questions that's all.
I find you calling him a newbie a snide remark.
If you read my other post and Ryan b's, you will see we said to read and read some more.
Whatever dude,
I'm done trying to explain myself. time for a few cold ones.
Cheers,
Rick.

hey lol nice reply's there want to know a bit about my sled alright =)

ive got a 1 1/4 paddle track with a 3 inch drop down brakets on the sispension and 96 studs i belive.. with the top line ohlin shocks in the front and some kind of exhaust duno what kind was there when i baught it... it has 3800km's and the top speed WOT was 119mph on river.. i have the complete shop manual on it and the CD for the computer...

its in mint condition always has been stored inside summer/winter always ran premium and fully synthetic oil in it.. i have these special plugs that are supose to burn before i blow the engine duno if thos actually work..

im usally prety good with sleds at tuning and blah on em sorry if i asked for a a chip for the computer and stuff just wondering didnt take apart the engine yet and ive always had polaris all my life so this is my first yamaha i own..\

somthing like that lol

One thing I have found with my 2002 SRX...LESS IS BETTER!! In other worrds, they work very well in stock form, I have found the 3 cylinder SRXs one of the most challenging sleds I have ever owned to improve upon! I think baselining the sled first,[stock clutching, jetting, compression ect] ,would be the best bet. If you ran 119mph on GPS or Radar I would say...DON'T TUCH IT!

As someone else mentioned, if you're hitting a buck-19 on GPS, I wouldn't expect much more top end.

I too came from Polaris and haven't looked back. Enjoy!
