I understand there has been discussion on this topic before but please bare with me. I strongly dislike the stock/oem skis on my 2003 Mountain Viper. I wish to replace them with skis that will provide better flotation, but still have decent trail performance. In powder, the stock skis perform poorly I believe -- and I have my limiter straps and suspension dialed for my front end lift.

The 2 options I like are Slydog Powderhounds and Simmons Gen II models. I know theere are also other good skis out there as well. Being the Gen II's are fairly new, what is everybody's experience with them? How would the Slydogs compare to them???

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Heard good things about the slydogs. The simmons are the same as the gen I's just wider. From what I understand they were developed with the frontend heavy sleds (apex, rx-1, etc...) in mind.

Personally I've had great luck with the USI 301 series. My wife and I are both using them now and I'm very pleased with them. Got a bud that runs them on his mod mountain climber and he's tried a bunch of different skis. My thoughts on skis.

guys say that the new stock yamaha mountain ski is pretty good. not as light as some of the aftermarket ones but it is a pretty good handling and floating ski. bro has a set on his sx500r from a 2007 mountain phazer. they handle pretty well on the trail and in the powder.

No experience with Simmons, but currently run C@A Ultra Xt on my Viper, and Powderhounds on my Attak. The Slydogs hands down turn easier than the C@A. BUT, they have a slight push, while the C@A turn RIGHT NOW!! Offtrail, they are equal. The Slydogs are better in one respect. Because they are more flexible, they will get on top of snow, rocks, trees, etc. I prefer the Slydogs, but the C@A are still great skiis. Hope this helped in some way !!

Thank you!

Thank you everybody for the advice --- I really appreciate the thoughts. Better to ask than pay $400+ on the wrong skis!

The simmons gen 1 are a great ski on and off the trail. They sure made my 136" sx-r float the way I thought it should plus they have been out long enough that you could potentially find a used set easily on here or e-bay for way less money, just a thought.

I run Simmons Gen 1s on my 2 1999 144"SXs as well as my 2002 144" SRX...I can not say enough positive about my handling, trailability[no tracking!!!] + deep snow performance! They also perform well in slush. If I had a complaint...they are a couple pounds heavier then the stock Yamaha skiis.
Works for me!

hey guys has anybody had any luck with the Camoplast All Terrain Skis? Im thinking about getting a set for the Mtn Lite, and if I dont Mod the mtn lite, Im gettin' a Mountain Max!!!

Well, Viper Dave -- here they are and I took your advice. I have the identical set up here on my Mnt Viper as you on your Attak!

If I like them, I'll get a set for my "Project 151: Attak!"

Thanks Bro!

NICE!!! You'll like them. Did you get the add on keels? I liked what they did for my Attak. And, just so you know, your skidplate is the WRONG COLOR LOL!!!!

Yeah....Whats up with that, it looks like a cheap add on...LOL

It came with that one when I got it 3 years ago -- and it is a really good float plate, so I just don't replace it, but it is orange. I don't know what prompted the original owner to put that one on there! But actually it is pretty bright, and I don't mind it. If it bothered me, I'd replace it.

Anybody have an extra blue Mnt. Viper float plate lying around?

Yep. I told Bergstrom I wanted the same set up you had, as you recommended them so highly, esp. for the Powder Hound's. Now I just can't wait for snow to fly so I can try 'em out!
