Just got the track installed. Everything went together fine but it seems my track lugs are rubbing against the front heat exchange protectors. It's a 1" kimpex ultimate traxtion. When i bought it from the local dealer they said it would fit fine. Did i do something wrong, and or did i get mislead from my dealer. Its only rubbing by 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. Man i made it this far and i'm sick of this project, just looking for any ideas as to what i got going on!!!! Thanks.

A 1" track will fit fine on a Viper - I run a 1-1/2 and it doesn't rub. Is it rubbing the exchanger itself or the heat exchanger protectors ?? If it is just rubbing the protectors you can remove them as long as you are not studding, or just let it wear in.

My bad, it's hitting the front heat exchange protectors (top post edited). Thats what i was wondering if i can just let it wear in or if i should shave the lugs down as i dont want them to tear. I am studding, 96 down the middle for now untill i see how it rides. Thanks chris

Pretty sure your Viper is the same as my SRX. I have a 1" aggressor and had to clip about the same amount (1/16" to 1/8") off of my track. I thought about letting it wear away but was a little concerned with heating the track because the lugs are quite a bit thicker than most. I've read that others have done it without issue.

Whats the best way to cut these down? Do i shave the whole lug or just at the window's where the protectors are. Best tool for the job? Thanks a lot as alway's!

I used a set of tile nippers that happened to be the same width as the HX protectors. I just cut the area where the lugs contacted the protectors and left the rest of the lug as is.

I have 1 studs on my viper and they do not hit the heat exchanger protectors. I would check and make sure there isnt something put back together wrong. I have about 3/8 to 1/2 inch clearance to the protectors still. My suspension is bone stock with no mods...

I have plenty of room for the studs and the track to the exchangers, the lugs across the windows are hitting the exchanger protectors. Ive checked and rechecked my parts and everything is together right. So it looks like i just have to trim the lugs that hit the heat exchanger. Please tell me if im wrong. It just seems if the chain case lines up with the driver which lines up with the speedo side bearing mounting that everything should be right. Im willing to cheat again, dmann you out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're not wrong. If the lugs on your track go across the window area (which is also where the HX protectors line up to), and are 1 inch long, they're going to rub the protectors. The OEM track had .920" lugs but also had reduced lug hieght at the track windows thus would not rub until the track ballons then the shortened lugs hit the protectors instead of the studs hitting the HX.
Trim the lugs enough to keep them off the protectors (as you mentioned, 1/16" to 1/8") and you'll be fine up front. Out back is another story.
I have to run the track tension tighter than I like (which is still looser than spec.) because I was getting some stud nicks on the rear HX. I have HX protectors on the rear but there is a gap between the tunnel protectors and rear protector which allows for the track to come up and just bearly nic the HX when the track is loose. I'd have to weld something on the front end of the protector to close the gap, but running the track a bit tighter was easier than pulling the HX protectors.
It isn't cheating. It's what's required when you run a lug taller than the OEM where the windows are. Trim the lugs and celebrate, you're done!!
