hi, i am new hear but not new to sleds. put my motor back together ran fantastic for 500mi.motor usualy revs to 8800 with hauk pipes. then in the middle of a ride r's droped to 6000 and smokes like a pig on top end. bottom end still nice and responsive.so i bypssed the oil pump and premixed gas to 32:1 only for about 5 miles no difrence so i hooked it back up. checked compresion 135 in all three cylinders.carbs are clean. it almost acts like a rev limiter. thanks jim

stator??......very common thing to go out on a '97 sx700.

thanks i'll try that. when the stator goes out does it take anything else with it like coils or cdi
Or plug caps / plug wires.

T.O.R.S. has been bypassed for three years now. but a wire may have broke i'll check that out. bottom end is good. you could drive it all day if you keep it under 5000rpm.
have you checked your primary clutch for binding? how about the oil pump calibration? not sure if 5 miles unhooked with premix would be enough to rule out. still oil in the lines richening the mixture. the excessive smoke sounds like its trying to oil foul. throw in some new plugs and see what happens.

new plugs ,oil pump is set right, clutch setup has about 1500miles on it.

found wires rubbed throug under the handle bar cover.hope this fixes the problem.

let us know if it was your handlebar wires. I have the same kind of issue on a sled I own

I sent my stator out to get rebuillt, still wating on it. but I'll let you know what happens.

All back together runs awsome. carries the skis like it did befor it started to act up.i think the brake light switch and the bare wires under the handle bar pad took out the stator.
