good i am glad you got it i was going to call you today to see what you were doing tomorrow to bring that tester over. but you got it sorry could not get to you sooner.
Let me know if you decide to long track that SRX if you need a hand and i have free time i am not to far away.

I am doing a leak issue as well. What PSI does the system run at? mine holds at 25 for about a min then dropps off very slowly

Anyone have a pressure tester in central WI to loan out? I have a leak to chase down myself...

I would lend one but im in south eastern WI. My system held at 25 lbs for 2 days before i took my pressure tester off, but i still have a leak!!! How is this possible? The sled is on an angle because i was working on it and there is anti freeze poolong at the end of it on the ground. so i think there may be a hole somewhere along the heat exchanger and it is running down it to the end then dripping off. Would a pin hole leak cause this?

is possibly some antifreeze that was in the sled chassis somewhere that ran out when you put it on it's side. if it held 25psi for 2 days I wouldn't think you have a leak.

I wouldnt think that either but i have added coolant to it several times last year on my last couple rides. I just want to know how it can leak but still have pressure, and its not like it is leaking a whole lot. just a small stain on the garage floor. But when im riding it the heat light comes on and my coolant is all used up.

maybe when it heats up whatever is leaking expands and leaks but cold it closes enough to have held the pressure. not sure on that one. keep us posted when you figure it out

Well heres whit im tinking ill do. Ill put some aluminum powder stop leak in there and purge the system correctly, i dont know if the previos owner did this. Ill see how this holds up and let you guys know. I am hoping it will work as i only needed a little bit of water every 150 to 200 miles.
May have a head gasket leaking when it gets hot. Where is it leaving a puddle at?

its not really a puddle just a few dropps every few hours at the front end of the left side heat exchanger. I thought it might be that, the previous owner might have put a thin head gasket on, im not sure this guy did everything to this sled from no tranfer rods to running with a blown chain case seal and bearing. This sled had bee a piece of works but i wanted a red head cheap and i got it (1999 sxr) from him for around 900 bucks so i didnt ask many questions.

You could run the engine to get the entire cooling system up to operating temp. then put the pressure tester on it. The higher temp will cause the aluminum heat exchanger to expand, if there is a temp. sensitive leak, it should show up.

ok ill try that too that sounds like it might help me fint the leak a little better, thanks

might be the clamp on the running board exchanger, sometimes you get that white corrosion on the tubes and the hose will just drip a little bit.

yea that could be the issue aswell. Thanks. I just wish i could get some snow it would make me work alot faster!!

When is the last time you changed the engine coolant? Engine coolant is probably the most neglected fluid in the engine world. The coolant is not simply water with ethylene glycol (or propylene glycol). It has corrosion inhibitors in it which get depleted over time, even while the sled is sitting idle. I change the engine coolant in my biles and sleds evey other year. Soem will say it is overkill but the volume is small and it is easy to do and to me it is cheap insurance against problems.
If you change it, realize standard ethylene glycol antifreeze is extremely poisonus to pets!! Be sure to either use distilled or deionized water and NOT hard tap water. The higher the antifreeze to water ratio, the better the freeze up protection BUT the heat transfer property gets lower. You need to use an antfreeze formulated for use with aluminum (most coolants today are).
The reason I mention this isin response to Mr. Vipers suggestion. The corrosion he is reffering to is from a coolant with depleted corrosion inhibitors. the aluminum in contact with the rubber hoses get a buildup of white, powdery aluminum oxide and pushes the hose away, the powdery material is the leak path.

You guys need to try the motorcraft premium gold anti-freeze. Best coolant I have ever used. i run it in my g.m's. lol.

I thought i knew alot about my sled untill i asked about a simple leak haha. Thaks for the imput i will definatly drain it and clean all the hoses and connectors of any corrosin just to be sure.
