i have a 06 apex and a 01 srx and i love the srx, but the apex is so much more comfy and easier on my old knees and back, has anyone put a apex seat on a srx? i have a extra seat so im going to try it. How much do you think it wil affect handling to be 2-3 inches taller?

Please take pictures so we can see how the seat looks and fits on the sled. The biggest issue I see will be getting a clean fit around the gas tank. I have been thinking about this change also and was planning on making a fiberglass cover to go over the tank and mold into the new seat. Look forward to seeing some pictures

You'll have to cover up the exhaust hole in the rear also. Tried a viper seat? They have a bit more cushion to them and they should bolt right up and i believe the lighting plug is also the same.

Wasnt too worried about the seat, the apex seat has good storage and finishing the back would just give me more storage, the problem is the front lip on the apex leaves a 4 inch gap with the srx tank and the apex tank wont fit in the srx. maybe i will great foam the gap as a mold and than fiperglass over that. i wish i was smart enough to modify the tank so it would fit and i could store more fuel

pics

here are some pics with the seat on and some more with just a apex seat frame on it. the reason im tring the apex seats are because i got em for free from a snocrosser that was throwing them out

Know a good upholstery shop? They should be able to fill the gap with foam and make/match a new seat top for it. We did that to an srx seat once. Looks just like a boss flattop high rise when it was done. Might be something to try.

i have a apex tank and the plastic cover, im going to play with that on friday. ill post more pics friday

What is it hitting on the gas tank? Can the plastic base be reformed by using a heat gun to allow it to slide forward and close the gap?

I'm all for neat mods. But if you got the seat for free why don't you sell the apex seat ($200 or so), your srx seat ($100), and buy a boss high rise seat.

It will be much easier for a little less than $300 out of pocket. Or if you are really lucky you can find a boss seat used.

I'd get a Boss, too. Just wait until this winter... Boss is revamping their lineup and selling black versions of their seat models for $399. You can also still special order seats if you want color.

Best mod i've done hands down.

I have the old-style custom made seat. I love it. But it cost over $600 to have it custom made, but worth every penny.......

They used to hand carve + build every seat, which led to the high price. But they could build in little requests one might have for an extra fee (a little higher, wider, etc. or extra pockets....)

They just started a different process (automated) where seats are now cheaper ($399.00 each) but look a little different and are only black and white. They are built from a cast mold so no customization if you go that route...... Check out their website. For the price, they look nice.

I can get some pics of my seat posted if anyone wants. I believe they can still hand build them, but they takes forever.....

90% of the reason for moding is to seperate your sled from every one elses. if you just by a bunch of after market parts then theres always a chance of some one out there having the same thing.

other than that i just don't like the looks of the boss seat, just my personal taste, nothing against those who do

To each their own, but I get compliments from literally EVERYBODY who sees my seat. It just plain looks sweet. I really had them put every bell and whistle and customization they could into it. But it turned out sweet......

My gripe was it literally took 2 1/2 months in the off season for them to build it. I had them add an extra inch to the Highrise Widetop and make it wider... (I'm thin, but I still wanted a big old seat.....) Then I had them add 2 (Dos!) LED lights to the rear and put blue panels on it and put their "tacky" type material on the seat so no slippage.

It looks good. It is waaaaaaaay more comfortable. And it is functional. Come by my house in Hermantown, MN and check it out if you'd like.

For my Attak (Which is the GT version -- black and white) I'll most likely order their new $399.00 package, which I think looks good. But for my Mnt. Viper, I wanted a custom seat, so I had to order a custom seat......

FYI, Mnt Mod seats are $700+ at least..... They are the only alternative I know of, and they are not as good.... But Boss does take their good sweet time to get their seats done and shipped, so plan to be patient.......
