I have not done any work on Yamahas but I assume they are similar to Polaris (at least they look similar, SME perhaps).
I've fixed cracks in Polaris hoods by sewing the crack together after drilling numerous holes along both sides of the crack with fiberglass thread. Also make sure you drill just beyond the end of the crack to stop it from spreading. Then filling and finishing with Corvette bumper apoxy. The Vette apoxy remains flexible but without mechanically holding the crack together, the repair will crack again. I would also recommend a flexible primer and OEM paint.
You'll also want to keep the area where you are applying the apoxy as rough as possible to allow the apoxy to bite and hold. I used 60 grit to grind the area around the crack and also where the thread layed from hole to hole. I applied the apoxy twice... one layer on the outside and another layer on the inside.
