I need a new track for my 2000 sx-r. can anyone tell me where i can find a reasonably priced track and what size i need? also where can i get cheap studs and how many should i put on ? i do mostly trail riding but there is a lot of lakes a cross aswell and i slip like crazy???

Sxr is a 500, 600 or 700? If it was a 500 I'd put 96 studs in it, 600 120-144 studs and the 700 I'd put 144 in it. You can sometimes find used tracks on here in the ads section, also look on craigslist or something like that. Kimpex probably makes the cheapest tracks, camoplast being a bit more expensive. I'd go with a 3/4" and no bigger then a 1" track if you're going to run studs because of the clearance at the front heat exchanger. I ran a camoplast durasport 725 in my sx 700 never got around to studing it but it worked fairly well. Not worth putting a stock track back in it would be more $$$ from Yamaha then an aftermarket.

well, first off, you need a track 121" x 15" with a 2.52 pitch. And for your riding, I agree with SRXSRULE2, use a 3/4" to 1" track with 144 studs for your 700, and don't go to yamaha like he also said, you'll pay way to much for it. Tracks USA should have something you need with a good price. I'd say a 1" Hacksaw with 144 stud up the middle is a good track for ya to use.

As said you need a 121"x15" with 2.52" pitch sorry i forgot to mention that. I ran a Hacksaw last year in my viper with the 144 pre drilled holes but I ran it without studs last year(never got around to intalling them). I thought it was a descent all around track but lacked a little off trail even though it is only a 1" track. It hooks up really well on hardpacked trails and I noticed a bit of increase in track speed as well. I'll warn you if you buy a track without the holes drilled and you stud it, you will not get the warranty they offer with the pre drilled holes. Also the holes are setup for double and single backers, beware of that and check out the track before you purchase studs! My mistake was costly lol.

I might add that a buddy of mine took a ripsaw 1" out of a ski doo but it was only 14" wide but it still works, you just loose an inch in foot print. Keep that in mind as they do not offer a ripsaw that is a 121"x15"x1"

so if i go with a fourteen inch i will corner and what not better on trails but i will not have as much speed out of the gate? and do you think i will miss out with out studding? i want to gain speed out of the gate but not lose to much opp the top end? sorry i know im being difficult everyone. i just need the best advice for my style

If you go with the 14" you'll just have a narrower track. Its not a big deal, Arctic Cat ran a 13.5 in their firecats for a while and off trail you won't notice a huge difference, but you won't float in powder as well. The reason for going with a 14" is because they never made a Ripsaw that was 121"x15"x1" instead it would be a 121"x15"x1.25" (stock viper and new sled track) thus having lugs a 1/4" taller. That would be fine if you don't want to run studs. However if you want to run studs you can't run a 1.25" track with studs because you will tear up your front heat exchanger. So if you run the 14" ripsaw that has one inch lugs you can run studs and you'll be fine. If you don't want a ripsaw track you have a lot of other choices to go with.

I ran a 121"x15"x1" Hacksaw with no studs for the winter. This winter I'll run 144 studs because on ice you need it.

Somethings to note when looking for a track.. Yamaha's are hard on sliders (you probably know that) so to make to your advantage and help save hyfax you should look for a track that is fully clipped and with all the windows opened. This will help keep more snow in the track and lube the sliders.

If you want inexpensive studs, I've had great luck on ebay with a user called julzgrin. He sells 60 degree cardide tipped studs with nuts and backers for $0.99 each. I've done two sleds with them and they have not given me any problems so far. I don't know if you've made up your mind yet on a track, but I called cbperformanceparts.com and talked to them and also tracksusa. They both have great advice on track selection just as do the guys on this forum. I ended up with a 1" track from cbperformance so that I could stud it and the owner gave me plenty of advice on making the job go smoothly.

can i fit a 1.25 ice ripper?
Go with the ice ripper or ripsaw - you'll like them a lot - perfect for your riding. All you need to do to run them is remove all heat exchanger and tunnel protectors.
