As the title says. I have a new to me srx700 1999 in nice shape. I pulled the carbs and cleaned them. Put it all back in and started it up. It sounded like it did before i cleaned them the one thing i found though was my middle pipe was not as hot as the other two. So the first thing i did was pull the plug it looked ok not wet or anything. Next i swaped ignition wires to see if i had a dead coil pack. No luck with that the middle pipe still stayed cold. Then i swaped plugs from the number three and number two cyls. Fired sled back up and all three pipes got hot. Whats the deal? Do you all think i have an intermittent plug or do i have a problem with the middle carb? Not sure where to go from here. I was going to put three new plugs in it and pull the carb rack back off and see if i have a stuck float or something. Any help from you all would be great thanks ANDY

Another thing i should have added is that i never checked to see if all three pipes were hot when i ran it before the carb cleaning. But i have run it across the grass in the yard before i put it in the sled trailer and it pulled the skis off the ground no problem so i know it was hitting all three cyls before i messed with carbs.

You might want to pull all three fuel lines at the carbs(try to catch the fuel in a container) fire up the sled (or use a vacuum pump) to view the fuel flow. Possibly it took a little longer to fill the middle carbs fuel bowl/stuck float/fuel pump rebuild time?...you didn't say how long you ran the sled for???

Ran the sled about three minutes before i noticed the mid cyl pipe cold. I had to of created this problem while cleaning the carbs. The other thing i was wondering is if it may have been a tors issue? Can the tors drop a cyl at idle? I will look into it further when i get home today

I would bet that it is the plugs but, if you put all new plugs in and have the same problem you may want to check the resistance of the plug cap/wire. Since the sled is now 11 years old the cap/wire may have degraded to the point that it has too much resistance and does not deliver the voltage needed to properly fire the plug. I chanced a problem around for weeks on my SX only to find I had a bad cap/wire. I don't know what the resistance spec is for your sled but I am sure if you did a search here on T.Y. you will find it.

Hummmm

Sounds like you have not even definately determined whether or not the cylinder is firing. First, start the sled up and while it is idling pull off the center plug wire. If the sled continues to run the same with no change in sound or RPM then obviously there is a problem. Next, determine if the problem is due to lack of spark or lack of fuel. Once you get this stuff out of the way you might know what direction to go in.

TORS should have no effect on the sled at idle.

Changed all three plugs with new sleds sounds good now all three pipes are hot. And im happy Thanks all for the help. The old owner had br9es in there I put in the br9ecs that it called for.

Probably just flooded then from trying to start it with dry carbs. At least it was simple. Make sure you run the Br9ecs and not just regular br9es. I believe the heat range is different.

The ecs is technically right & more expensive, but you can run es too.
Search the srx starting procedure or else you'll be toasting those $6 plugs every time you start.
