Head gasket peel

Which years of the 600 twins were safe to do the head gasket peel? I have a 94 with a 3-layer gasket. Is it safe to do the peel, or should i leave it alone?

You could do the HG mod on the '97-'01 twins. The '94-96 twins had a thin gasket from the factory alredy and can't/don't need to be peeled(had great compression).

My 94 600 vmax had the 3 layer gasket. I swapped mine out for a thinner one from Yamaha, leaned out the mains to w/e the dealer said (can't remember I think it was only a 2 size drop) and it made it a lot better on fuel.

the GYT twin pipe kit instuctions say too put on head gasket part no. 8CA-11181-00-00 0.6mm headgasket

I have a 95 and was told to remove one of the three from the factory by my dealer. Waiting to find out how it works or if it grenades.

i just recently put on the GYT twin pipe kit. Does anyone know how thick the factory head gasket is? If yahama recommends a thinner head gasket, I will definitely listen.
