OK, im going to put a 2inch riser on my 1997 SX 700, im also going to reinforce the steering post......
my question is.....
What is the absolute maximum amount of rise i can put on with stock cables.
I saw a picture of a guy that put a 3.5in riser on with stock cables. and i just measured from the mount plate of the steering post, to the bottom of the bar, and i got about 3inch with plenty of cable slack.
i want to know from your experience, not from what yamaha says...

From my experience it also depends on the positon of the bars, ie all the way forward, (back) ect. I have 2" pivot risers on all my sleds. The 2 vipers i know i could go more without any problems. From what i read you can go pretty high just rerouting your cables. The 96 xt is pretty tight but you got to remember it was made 12 years ago.

i had a two inch block riser on my 1997 vmax i got longer cables because when i made a left turn the oil cable was all the way on. just my two cents

I had a 2 inch block on mine and the cables were pretty tight. They worked perfectly fine but I couldn't go any taller.
2 inch is fine you just need to take the cable holder off of the bar mounts, and reroute the cables to where they don't get tight when turned all the way right or left. I ran a 3 and had no problems. Maxdlx
I tried a three on my 98 and couldn't keep the oil line together. Tried a 3.5 pivot on my 97 and couldn't keep the throttle from going tight when turned lock to lock. My experience.

I put 3.5 and turned up the handle bars almost all the way straight up.

Just so we're all clear on one thing... When you are polishing your riser, I'm not going to be there to help you get IT straight! Just so we're clear on that, you got it? (That's a private matter between you and your 2" riser.)
