not to hijack your thread but i'm going to look at a 2001 with just 700 miles on it. i posted a couple threads down. i know i will be paying more then what the 2 guys had suggested it's worth but when i read something like this then i have no problems paying a little more for something that works right from the get go. unfortunately it sounds like my 98 that has 22000km is in better condition then the one you bought, i hope it works out for you. good luck
nope new switch did not do it still no sparky
sounds like a nice project ........ look wire everywhere under the steering post and motor and bring alots of beer loll
check where the wire cross the motor case from the stator
thanks mod will do that today
I didn't read the entire thread, so don't know what all you have done. Nor, do I know if any of the other experienced electric guys on here have answered any of your questions. However, the fact that you haven't found the problem indicates that maybe the electric nuts have yet to respond.
Maybe, if you could summarize where you are at, one of us can respond. not enough time to read the whole thing.
As far as the harness check, unplug and untie the harness from the hood and front frame, release the fold over clamps under the engine, tie a string to the end and pull the entire harness out from under the engine. This allows you to inspect carefully. The string is for pulling it back into place.

i checked all wiring near steering post area it all looks good i am now in the process of pulling the harness from under the motor ---will the connector clear the case ? might just pull the motor; pipes and carbs are already off
well after the carb and pipe are remove its not a huge job .....yes it will clear but u need to open the loop that hold the wire in place...check wiring at your left foot if u didnt check
yea i untaped all the way to the cdi box and it looked fine. is there any loops under the motor?
yes u will find them

If i were in your shoes at this point i would take the diagram and check each and every single wire that has anything to do with ignition with the meter. disconect the wire at both ends and read through it. let us know what happens
sounds like a plan thanks
