power valves

just sold my my vmax4 and bought a 1998 600 srx...just wondering if there was a way to check the cables on the valves with out taking them apart..

Not really It really only takes a few minutes to pop them apart once you do it a couple times.

Idle the sled down to below 1000 RPM and pull the cover off the Power valve motor. The valves should be pulled into the high position putting the cables under tension. Push on the exposed section of each cable and if you create slack then that cable has broken or pulled through the valve if it stays taunt then it's O.K.. It's a quick check that takes less than a minute.

That doesn't always work because spring #22 will show cable tension if valve is pulled through or not,open it up and clean and adjust it's easy to do and the only sure fire way of telling,been there done that.

I'm talking about trail side trying to determine running quality issues. It was always very accurate for me. Never missed a broken cable or valve.
